Seen 6168 at Heworth and 6169 at Gateshead today. Anyone know if they’re in service or is it driver familiarisation?

I'm impressed with the "Big days out by bus" leaflet that's being put out on the buses recently. Although I've been to most of the places, it's a good guide and I can see it being genuinely useful with routes to the said places included too.[Image: 61c614576d73e280afa6a8ab664e0bbc.jpg]

The different sized vinyls on those Geminis are somewhat triggering.

6914 doesn't appear to have black paint surrounding the gaskets either...

Oh dear, how will we survive?

I think they look smart, especially since it's completely unneeded in the scheme of things, the extra mile of making vehicles look smart.

I don't think anyone can suggest anything other than it being an improvement on what they looked like previously...

As I've said before, I don't think the corporate livery sits very well on these being dual-door, but the differing vinyl sizes are largely due to the fact that London have cobbled them together with different (wrong) panels over the years. That's just my opinion of course and a number of you said they look good. Saltmeadows Road are changing as many of these panels as possible, such as the one underneath the driver's cab window, which comes at a higher cost, but this ultimately relies on solid delivery times for parts. Each one is different so can't really order them in advance, as they mightn't all need one. The advert holders are also in a different place to what is standard for Go North East, meaning the company logo on the offside has to go on the bottom of the bus rather than in between the two decks as is standard at Go North East. Even the external emergency door buttons are in different places on each bus!

Older ex-London stock is always usually the same - look at Arriva's examples in the North East, who have similar issues with lacking consistency...

They could have left them in Go-Ahead London livery of course which would have been a lot simpler, rather than strain resources completing three repaints per week to get them done in time for September, as most of the independent operators who previously operated these Nexus contracts would have done for a one-year contract...

Some of the windscreens are also being replaced at the same time as the LED destinations being fitted as a number have started 'milking' (where a horrible white mark gets into the windscreen and expands over time).

6914 also mistakenly had the contactless vinyl removed (again, this should have stayed for Special Events), and 6902 has had a colour route-number front destination fitted. Mistakes are easily made, some are also easily rectified (when things calm down!)

I've looked at the picture of 6914 for a solid 5 minutes, where exactly did you want that black paint?

Other than them being dual door, externally they look very smart. I think that the Eclipse family of bodywork works much better with the GNE corporate livery than the Omnidekka. (To be honest, I think the Eclipse bodywork is probably one of the best designs I can remember, in terms of still looking fresh nearly 20 years later).

Repainting them for the event will give a better impression of the company than having what is obviously tired ex-London stock running the services.

Around the windows - he just referred to the window type rather than using a term that everyone will understand.

They would look similar to the ex-London B9TLs if they were painted black.
