(03 Jan 2019, 8:59 pm)Jamie M I think thats more advice than protocol, but I may be wrong.

Yes I would take that view too. In the actual regulations (page 34 under 'Best Practice') it says:

"A good destination and route number display will be clearly legible by day and night and commercial advertising should not detract from them."

This isn't me defending them, I still don't like the display, but they technically aren't in breach of the regulations.

(03 Jan 2019, 8:32 pm)Jamie M It stays on the promo display with route number for a few secs then back to destination for a few secs.
Does the side display change as well or just the front and rear?

(03 Jan 2019, 5:59 pm)S813 FVK I'm not a fan of it myself and glad it's only going to be around for this month.

At least they have executed it better than Transdev though, who not only didn't display the route number while the promotion display was on, but had the price in the same font proportions as the route number. Certainly not 'amazing'.
https://twitter.com/mikemcniven/status/1...0691332096

On the topic of destinations, is there anything planned to get the 'X30 Newcastle' display changed over to the terminal point only style?
6168 has all the old programs on too.

(03 Jan 2019, 5:54 pm)Adrian I wonder how long before drivers get sick of people asking where their bus is going, or sticking their hand out at the last minute, because they want the bus for 'Fencehouses' - not 'January App Sale'

Not a fan of this at all. Destination equipment should be used for exactly that purpose - informing customers of where the bus is going.
Interestingly, not one passenger commented on the displays to me throughout the day.

I'm not sure I noticed a particular increase in the amount of m-tickets but I don't really keep a mental note of who paid with what. Be interesting to see the stats of which method of advert most motivates a customer in this sector. As a passenger I never read advertisements or looked for a better deal, where there probably was one to be had.

Hopefully as more smart devices flood the network, more smart payments take place. I'd like to see some peak buses use contactless or pass use only, see how much difference it makes to cash in hand.

Unlikely. Seems just to be on the buses with the WiFi enabled controllers that can be updated remotely.

I saw those January adverts on the destination blind of a Blaydon Racer Citaro today.

It’s so crammed on you can barely read it.

726 and728 have arrived for the Sunderland Connect, they feature:

Esteban Civic V3 seating complete with leather and soft topper foam for added comfort; two-colour Tarabus 'Wood Effect' flooring; and blue accent lighting, which is fitted underneath seats and on the stairwell, to provide extra light on the gangway. Like all of Go North East's new vehicles; they feature Wi-Fi, 'Next Stop' audio-visual announcements and USB connections as standard, although this is the first time USB power sockets have been included on an Optare new-build.

Gathering to provide extra capacity on the X6/X7 due to the Arriva strike, should've used deckers if any were available.

No double-deck vehicles were available, so high capacity single-decks had to suffice.

Double deckers wouldn't get very far on the X6/X7 anyway with that low bridge near Seaham. Unless they were to divert around it of course.
