Great sight seeing deckers in Sunderland. Was out running and saw both of them in action. If only Sunderland depot had a fleet of them .

Whenever Sunderland next get new buses they should get a fleet of ADL E400MMC bodied Scania CNG's to replace 19641-44, 24001-3, 27726-40 and possibly some MAN E200s which would be withdrawn or cascaded elsewhere to replace several of the remaining MAN ALX300s. Though green bus funding would be needed to purchase more gas-powered buses.

Sunderland may need more double deckers in the near future for social distancing?

I heard from a friend, that if the North East was to get new buses, Sunderland would be next, he said someone high up had told them... take it with a pinch of salt though.

I would like Sunderland to become a fully gas run depot, that was the plans years ago but now i would imagine, orders will be lower over the next few years due to this crisis.

Hopefully the Government release funding for buses to help with buying greener buses.

24001-24003 were planned to be withdrawn in the Sunderland changes for April, i would imagine these will still go ahead and will be put in place when "normal" service resumes.

I don't get why Stagecoach are still running a Sunday service when GNE are running at least 80% of their services...

Because the demand for such service is not there at the moment, GNE opted to run 80% of their services as they didn't know what passenger numbers were going to be like following those returning to work last week to in part was a smart move as it has allowed a lot of room for social distancing on services as they were getting busier on the temporary timetable.

From personal experience in the last week of using the 21/25/X21 & 309 between home and work there has been no more than 5 people on the services at any one time so a reduced timetable of 50% of what they are running now I would say would be enough, more so if double deckers were allocated to the majority of services which operate with single decks at the moment.

But Shields doesn’t need extra buses. It has less buses simply to keep within budget. Going over budget would threaten the depot’s medium to long term survival.

Perhaps you right. It will be a decision made by the executives at Stagecoach HQ , when allocating funds to each region.

I’m surprised that stagecoach hasn’t closed down South Shields Depot and moving the rest of the operations over to Sunderland, wonder how much it cost to keep shields depot open, the depot itself must be quite a number of years old and the structure will be taking a toll

19644 has just past my house on the 23, the other board on the 23 is also a decker, which is 19641 according to bustimes.org

19642/19643 are on the 11.

Meanwhile, Stockton have 19205 out on one of the two 36 boards - quite a contrast to last Sunday when 11288/99 were on 36s, 19204/5 were on 28/59/61 and 19383 was on 52s.

'Dots' 27253 is out in Middlesbrough this morning - appears to be a changeover for 27180. It's so far worked a 39 and is in the middle of a trip on 14s.
MMC 26280 is out on the all day 59(/58/61) board - being duped by the usual 'Dots' 27245.
