Would've worked if Arriva renumbered to X38, ditched Marden and had it Blyth - Billy Mill then limited stop to Newcastle.
I too miss the 44. Service offered to Marden is worse than useless.

I know 3x E400's were orginally bought, but why only 3? 

Also there were going to be 31x Streetlites what were the plans for them. 

When did the other E400's get bought.

If I remember correctly, the 3 original E400's were for the X30 cause they needed to be low-height. Then the Streetdecks were bought for the X45/46/47, X31 and X70/71. The remaining E400's were bought for the X1. Because of COVID 9 of the Streetdecks were re-directed elsewhere. Then the E400's were reallocated to Consett to allow the X30/31/70/71 to interwork with the Streetdecks going on the X1 and the X45/6.

Weren't they leaning towards the Scania E400 for the X9/X10, but they were waiting for a demo vehicle to become available as they were in high demand?

We were supposed to get a couple of the new StreetDecks for the X21, but I'm guessing my perpetual moaning about having THREE different interior specs put them off, and we ended up getting the X9/X10 cast offs instead (which I'm mostly over now, either they're getting better, or my standards are dropping).

IIRC, the X9/X10 wasn't even going to get an upgrade for a few years, it was only because Oxford wanted rid of some coaches and wanted some StreetDecks that it ended up getting an upgrade early.

The initial XLines order was:

X1 - 14x E400MMC
X21 - 4x additional StreetDeck (when Durham - Newcastle was every 15 mins)
X30 - 3x existing MMC + 1x additional MMC
X31/X45/X46 - 13x StreetDeck
X47/X70/X71 - 9x StreetDeck

The above doesn't factor in any spares ordered.

X9/X10 was in the pipeline for a future heavyweight decker order and the B5TLs would've probably ended up on the X84/X85.

However, when COVID hit:
- Coaches were available for X9/X10 from Oxford.
- X30's / X70's needed a more efficient interworking pattern (meaning low height deckers = E400MMC)
- Oxford needed some StreetDecks.

Therefore, 9x StreetDecks were sent to Oxford. In return, GNE got the 7x Volvo interdeck coaches meaning that 6308-14 could be displaced onto the X21 alongside 6335/36 freeing up more StreetDecks to make up for the ones lost to Oxford. They predominantly ended up on the X5/X15, X45/X46 and also some spares for CLS. Since the, 6301-07 have been split between CLS & Washington to ensure there's enough Euro 6 spares.

The E400MMCs, ended up on on the X47/X70/X71 as an interim measure but all 11x have now formed the new X30's/X70's interworking pattern. The other 4x out of the original 15x were then sent to Hexham providing an upgrade to the X84/X85. In turn, out of the 21x StreetDecks (not including 6377) Consett got 8x for the X45/X46 with Washington getting 13x for the X1.

Thought they were already done. Doubt they would be as B9s on 309 didnt when they were fitted...did they?

They were sent away to get done whereas the B5Hs were done in house (I believe anyway).

That's the only reason I can think of that they aren't already out in service when the rest of the batch are, I think it's the only thing that was done differently
