Favourite Brands
Been part of NEB for 7 years, and i'd be quite interested in knowing what other peoples favourite brands are/were?
Mine
Citylink (Gold)
Loop (Black)
Nine (Purple)
The Orbit
The Lime
Saltwell Loop
GNE Corp Livery (2019)
Pink Panther
Coaster 2013 & 2021
North Tyne Links
Those are just a few
For me, my favourite has to be The Castles Express, I'll admit it wasn't the best looking one, but I just really liked the idea behind it.
If we're talking visually, X-Lines has really grown on me. I think the charcoal generic X-Lines livery looks absolutely fantastic, the rest I could take or leave.
I also quite like the current modified Angel.
Controversially, I also quite liked the silver TEN livery on the B9s, much better than the absolute shite that is Tyne Valley Ten!
I like the current Loop branding, although as I've said in another thread I don't like the placement of the 'road stripe'
I quite like the pink & blue versions of DFDS, the current Connections 4, little pinks, Sunderland & District berries and cherries, tyne Valley ten, Cobalt and coast, X lines, the old loop, the current loop and tge new metrocentre shuttle livery, voltra, Quay city, Quay link & the current coasters so quite afew which goes to show that GNE can make a good brand.
For me it would have to be the new Coaster Brand, X-Lines X45/X46/X47, The Cross Tyne Brand & The Doxford Clipper Brand.
I even think updated versions of the latter two would look really good.
I’ll go for:
21 24/7 branding.
Stanley Shuttle (how paramount didn’t sue for that Star Trek badge…)
The original X66 90s livery
The original Route 19 livery (one of first brands). Simple, effective and still would look modern today which most of the other brands from the era wouldn't and looks 100x better than the absolute rubbish branding on there nowadays (Little Coaster).
Imo it would work quite well with the roadstripes livery aswell if you had the Red / Blue then white and green for the stripes.
The whey aye five O was tacky as anything but always made me smile.
I've liked all versions of the angel. Distinctive and relevant.
I love the x-lines concept and my favourite is probably the purple on the X20 citaros. Not so keen on the orange on the consett services.
My favourites have got to be...
Red X-Lines
Castles Express
2021 Connections4
Cobalt + Coast
Coast + Country
Metrocentre Shuttle X66
Loved the Supershuttle livery on the DAF SB220's from previous and for present, I like the new Durham Diamond.
Out of the old/extinct brands:
Expresslink
Lambton Worm brand on the Darts
Original Lime brand on the Renowns
Orange Diamond brand on the Citaros
Out of the new brands:
Xlines branding, especially the X20 version on the Citaros
New Diamond on the Geminis
And lastly, I really want to like the new Connections 4 livery (and its growing on me!), but design agencies need to stop completely ignoring the importance of colour contrast in terms of accessibility. The 'Connections' text on the branding is a prime example:
