18th - 21st November

Lumiere returns to Durham from 18 until 21 November, with a programme of 37 artworks that will extend beyond Durham city into the wider county for the first time ever.

Highlights will include a newly-commissioned work in collaboration with Durham University, New Writing North and leading international poets, whose illuminated words will be projected onto Durham Castle, and a video-mapped journey from reflection to celebration on Durham Cathedral’s facade.

Surprised the 50 hasn't been extended to durham on the evenings, pretty sure they've done it in the past.

I can't recall that being the case. Whenever I've been through when it's on, I've still had to do the 21 then 50.

It would also make sense to make the X20 every 20 mins and put Deckers on it same with the 65 but every 30 mins.

Surprised they are able to run any extras given they are still cancelling a number of journeys of their scheduled timetables on a daily basis.

I wonder how much it costs the bus company to register a change of timetable to VOSA from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes and also use of extra buses and drivers, will it out way the costs just to run a couple of days for Durham light show for those extra passengers trying to get to Durham.

If they use double deckers on the X20/65/20  keep it at its normal times, but really its not like the customers are missing out on much.

I agree, but I suppose it depends what incentive is on offer. I think GNE will be doing even more than usual to minimise the amount of cancelled journeys on those four days, as of course it'll bring an extra level of scrutiny if resource is being used for this event whilst normal service work goes missing.

I don't think the full change procedure is invoked for special occasions/events, as I think they're generally exempt from the notice period too, but happy to be corrected on that!

GNE have regularly put extra services on for this event where other operators have largely failed. It's desperately needed, especially on the Friday and Saturday, where most buses come and go jam packed. Putting on and advertising extra services hopefully discourages people from taking the car, and lessens the congestion impact on the services they'd otherwise be running anyway.

Can we safely assume that Arriva aren't making any changes, this weekend? I can't find anything on their website.

All services are apparently still using North Road and Milburngate as normal so you'd imagine they'd just get more double deckers in if they can.

Assume they'd just be running them as duplicates rather than extra services believe that's how you get around it.

Mind it's debateable whether they're actually providing extra services since the 21 is still down from its normal frequency and in 2019 it was still every 15 minutes regardless with the X21 aswell.

I forgot when the 21 used to be every 15 mins to Durham.

They should bring that back, just have 1 go to Brandon the other go to Amazon Factory on peak times

Worse still, outbound, they're pretty close together, leaving Durham, st least in the morning.

But so many routes drop down to a fraction of their daytime frequency after 6pm that it's natural for people to winer if there will be more evening 22s, 64s, 49s etc.
