(31 May 2015, 8:48 pm)MurdnunoC The chronicle article also mentions the Caterpillar Monorail and the narrow gauge railway. Presumably neither would have been cheap to construct. You might have thought Gateshead Council (and other stakeholders) would have been keen to capitalise on these two attractions and make a little bit of money from them after the close of the festival. While I'm not a big fan of narrow gauge railways, they do seem to attract tourists. As far as I'm aware, aside from a path, nothing has been built on the course of the line. I can't help to think the council missed a trick there.

I wonder what difference the Newcastle/Gateshead initiative or NECA would have made, if they were around then or the festival was repeated now?

The council did miss out and fail to capatilise, but I wonder how much of that was down to naivety and how much was down to their hands being tied by the tory government of the time. We all know what they were like (and still are) for their love of private enterprise stepping up and making a few bob over the taxpayer benefiting via local/central government initiatives.

Disappointed that contactless payment hasn't worked again on metro machine tonight. Im missing out on 1% cashback. I know it doesn't seem a lot but it's building up quite nicely atm!

4072 on the green line at St Peters heading to South Hylton with 'Pelaw' as the destination. Announcements were all geared towards it terminating short too - many got off at Pelaw until the driver gave an announcement to say that he was in fact going to Sunderland and South Hylton!

Taken just now on a peak-time train...

Highly inappropriate if you ask me - blocking off 7 seats and a substantial amount of standing room on a train at this hour.

Appreciate new recruits have to receive training at some time, but surely first trains of the morning would be better, opposed to peak-time examples?

Next time that you see Metrocars of note please can you give details of the Train ID. (ie 123) It just makes it easier for people to find the journey on RTT etc.   Smile

I assume the Train ID is the little number given on the destination within the cab. If so, the chances are, I'm not going to be able to identify that little number when I'm passing on another train.

It may just be me, but I find it pretty easy to track a bus or train when a time is given paired with a place.

Yes, that's the one.

The forum only displays "3 hours ago" now - so it's harder for me to track the train. I should have really took the time when you posted it earlier.

I'm glad I changed my plans at last minute to get the bus instead of the Metro, otherwise I'd have been stuffed!

How on earth did they get up there? They must have had to walk from either Central Station or Gateshead to get there?

Usual Metro updates: No Metro disruptions

When we are running a good service (trains running at even intervals and at or close to the published timetable) the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any minor delays to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

Great time for this to happen too.

At Heworth and there's been a cock up when I first got here it was Airport 12 Airport 16 and Airport 22 then it was Airport 10 Not In Service 12 Airport 20 then Airport 9 NIS 11 Coast 12 Airport 16 then it was Airport 7 NIS 8 Coast 8 Airport 10 Now its Coast 3 Airport 6 NIS 6 Coast 11. Meanwhile on P1 there was 3 trains in 5 mins. Back to me I've just got on a rammed AIRPORT train wish I'd just got the 27 that was about to come over the roundabout. Think I'm gonna stay on till Gosforth then go to Regent Centre to get a Sapphire to charge my phone.
