Sharon Hodgson calling for the Metro to being extended, comes around as regular as Christmas. You can guarantee it to crop up on an annual basis.

with all this talk about expansion of the metro's I would of thought that they would have waited until they can get the current metro lines sorted as they are not in the great of states

Nothing wrong with the metro lines, It's the reliability of the Trains that's the issue, This will be resolved when the new fleet arrive in the next few years.

There does seem to be regular issues on the overhead power lines, though, especially on the stretch between Pelaw and Sunderland.

Metro/Nexus can't really do anything about that section of line because it owned by Network Rail

No service between South Hylton and Sunderland:

Tyne and Wear Metro

I've had a couple of questions about the service on the green line. Just to let you all know, the suspension is between Sunderland - South Hylton, between Sunderland - Airport is up and running, however there may be minor delays.
Sorry that I hadn't made it too clear - I hope this helps.

Update:

Tyne and Wear Metro

I'm about to make an update on it - it was due to finish at 9:30, but Network Rail has advised that it has proved a lot more problematic than initially thought. We are looking at ordering 2 replacement buses.

Two replacement buses will be available between Sunderland and South Hylton. They will start at Sunderland at 10:10 and 10:20. These will be the replacement 900 buses. Taxis will continue until after the buses have started running.
Once we have an update from Network Rail I will let you know. Sorry for the delays this has caused, and thank you all for your continued patience and understanding.

Anyone know who's running the replacement bus service?  Post on the Metro twitter account from Nexus saying trains will be off tomorrow and a 'very limited' replacement bus service - but no indication of what that means!  Possibly just three buses again?

According to actual metro account, just South Gosforth-Shiremoor
https://twitter.com/My_Metro

The incident with the train at Monument sounds really scary for passengers.

I think I'll be giving any more rides into the city centre with the boys a miss. Not that we bother that often because of the lack of decent lifts, anyhow.

Seems bizaare that they have been able to source only seven buses across the NE given there should be more spares than usual as its the school holidays.  Have to wonder how hard they have tried to find buses as even Stagecoach would have spares given the reduced PVR on the 1 for the summer, not to mention all of the displaced Enviro400s.

Last night it was all JH Coaches (not GNE as stated above) - presume it was JH again today?
