Metro timetable change will create room for social distancing on the network
The Tyne and Wear Metro will return to a normal daytime service frequency from Monday May 18, maximising the capacity for social distancing on the network.
Nexus, the public body which owns and manages Metro, is increasing the frequency of Metro services from 24 minutes to 12 minutes until 8pm every day, Monday to Friday, following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Two cable repairs are underway, our engineers have advised the repairs are taking longer than first thought, it is now estimated they will not be completed until after 6pm. We will update you as soon as we have more information.

Who's running the Metro replacement between South Hylton and St Peters?
Also they've explained what caused it -
Network Rail engineers are working to repair extensive damage to the overhead line in the tunnel through Sunderland station, on the route Metro shares with other train operators.
The overhead line was brought down by a freight train on Friday, causing extensive damage. Repair is made more complex by the age and low clearance of the tunnel.

The Government have given Metro £16.2m to maintain operations over the last few months due to current circumstances through till August 2020, I personally feel that even pre-covid 19 Nexus/DB Regio should be stripped of there operating licence given how poor this system is and be put out to tender for someone else who actually cares to takeover, they've literally wasted away millions of pounds on re-doing the same stretches of infrastructure for god knows how long now and the issue has still not been rectified and improvement in service/performance has still not changed

The depot at Howdon is coming along nicely,i relly do hope they keep it even after the upgrade of the Gosforth Depot is complete, tbh imo it would make sense to keep the depot incase a train fails on that part of the network then they can just pull into there rather than hold the entire network up

Due to a track circuit fault at Sunderland station, platforms 1 & 2 are not in service. Due to this trains will be stopping at platform 3 for both South Hylton and Airport trains. Passengers are advised to check the destination at the front of the train before boarding.
