First building on the VAUX site is due to completed by the end of 2017
Vaux Phase 1
The on site start date for the Vaux Phase 1 main works has been revised from June 2016 to October 2016 due to finalisation of planning requirements and legal agreements, unforeseen ground contamination, and additional archaeology work. The revised start date has resulted in an estimate of £8.397m being re-profiled into 2017/2018. The additional site investigations have reduced the risk to the project, providing greater certainty to delivering within timescales and cost. The works therefore are still scheduled to complete end of 2017 with no funding implications.

About time they put it in!, looks like The Licensee Harleys 55 High Street West Sunderland SR1 3DP and Cafe D'Mil 52 - 54 High Street West Sunderland SR1 3DP are the 2 shops which are going... don't even know if they're still open?
Planning app in to complete the Dewhurst site redevelopment:

Looks like 4 more units on top of the proposed 3 already (KFC, Aldi and the Pub)
I could become a decent area for shops.. Bet they'll be a Greggs, B&M store haha

Possible new development for Rainton Meadows Arena.
This involves construction of a new Aldi store.
The owners have been trying to redevelop that land for years without success. At one point a Travelodge was on the cards.
Edit: http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/busin...-1-8182501 More on the plans.
I'd be sad to see the Rainton Meadows Arena go. Had some awesome nights in there over the years, and to be honest, the refurbishment has done it a lot of good. They seem to get good crowds in with boxing and such.
Sunderland’s Vaux site development is being showcased to potential Chinese investors today. The site is included in a portfolio of projects across the Government’s ‘Northern Powerhouse’ area, which sets out details of 13 large-scale property and infrastructure development projects - each worth more than £100million - in an attempt to attract Chinese investors.

Mr Hammond said China and the UK remained “natural partners”. “The mutual benefits are clear,” he said.

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/business/...s-12174592 - Not great at all for Sunderland, looks like the city centre one is at risk of closing as there aren't any more in or around Sunderland?
Also wonder what store it will be in Newcastle? Kingston Park or something probably.

Yeah I would've thought that shop is too big for just food though? Unless they relocate.

Just thinking about the Outlet Byker Retail Park will probably close down too - I don't think that will be a popular food hall though haha
