I've always thought the usual board allocated the spare bus is the third/last to leave the depot. On every occasion that I have used the 07:47am X24 from Sunderland (or 08:50am return from Newcastle), it has been a gas bus.
Of course, it's not uncommon for two Omnilinks to be missing at once.

Edit: Overall its not a bad bus, seats are decent i do like the glass on the stairs as it lights up Blue.

Glad you caught up with in Michael, hopefully sample it myself at some point.
Saw the gas decker on x24 it was packed on the broadway at 3pm
The gas bus demo has just arrived in Sunderland, should be on the next bus to Newcastle.
Currently parked in front of Hays Travel.

All of the batch are being sold on through Ensign, minus the NE ones. 24005 stopped en route after being at Scania Darlo.
