705 is just VOR, with repairs being undertaken at Deptford. It is not planned to be transferred out of Peterlee until next month, when the operation of service 168 transfers to Chester-le-Street. For now, it will be used as one of the two spare minibuses at Peterlee (its place on Miscellaneous Works being taken by a Wear Xpress Solo).

635 and 636 will be temporarily withdrawn ahead of the commencement of the seasonal AD122 service, ahead of forward transfer to Hexham.
654 has transferred to Percy Main temporarily, pending delivery of the new Solos for Durham County Council contracts at Chester-le-Street.

Are we expecting more than 3 new solo's now, so other contract services get new solo's too, as it seems they'll still be short when those 3 arrive!

Any more of the "Blue Arrow" Scania's been withdrawn yet?
5204,05,06 are now at Peterlee

I took a short ride on the 74 to and from Newcastle Eldon Square today. Mercedes Citaro 5304 operated the route today in both directions. A comfortable and enjoyable ride. I was using a GNE Adult Return ticket, so I was limited to using the 74 in both directions. The bus was late in both directions, but departed Eldon Square almost on time after I boarded to come back.

Anyone know how long the 74 has operated?

Are the any plans for NSAs on Tynedale Links?

I would imagine it would be quite a challenge to drive a Citaro on the 74. The small bridge near Stamfordham springs to mind. Hexham depot have operated this service since Arriva days, except for a short while when it was operated by Go North East's Winlaton depot after GNE won the contract from Northumberland C.C. At the time Hexham was still with Arriva.

The 74 has ran for a number of years between Newcastle and Stamfordham areas and was originally a PTE route.

The 74 is regularly operated by a Solo or a Citaro. I am surprised how popular the service actually is, perhaps a full-size bus is more appropriate. I only travelled a short distance. I would use the service more if they ran it more frequently. A return ticket on an infrequent service is not a good experience.

Thanks for the information. I only recently discovered the existence of the service. I wonder if they will continue to run it.

I wonder how many people travel from Hexham/Stamfordham to Newcastle?

I don't know why I only recently discovered the 74.

Bells of Stamfordham don't seem to have any issue with the roads around Stamfordham with their fleet of about 10 or so full size coaches.
On the app it shows 4899 has been stuck at Wardley for 20 + minutes. Has it broke down?
The 74 has been around in various forms since Adam was a lad!  When I was involved, it was operated by Rochester & Marshal (R&M) of Gt Whittington - part of the now defunct Moor-Dale Group.  They operated a number of routes in the area.  Hexham to Morpeth via Ponteland and Whalton.  Hexham to Newcastle via Matfen and Stamfordham.  Hexham to Matfen.  They also operated the 689 Hexham to Consett.  Tyne Valley Coaches as Mid-Tyne Transport used to operate twice-daily through service from Bellingham to Newcastle via the Military Road.
