It's such a shame that the last bus from mine to Newcastle leaves at 6:30pm otherwise I would have been all over this!

Last bus, 6.30pm?! Where do you live, Timbuku?

Wey, if I fancied a 2 mile walk into Bishop (or a £1.40 Arriva ticket) I could catch a bus later, but I can't be arsed with that so I guess I'll just continue to pay the £4.50 for a day ticket!
Great initiative by GNE. Let’s hope this temps people onto buses.
If Stagecoach and Arriva did the same & NE1 stopped the free parking in the city, we’d be laughing - although maybe it’s best keeping it a bit longer until things pick back up and get back to near-normal, then really push the message home that public transport is the solution.

It won't though, buses are still seen as dirty and unsafe thanks to all the negative press about them at the start of the pandemic!
I can't do it as GNE don't even operate in my area after 7pm

Since GNE have arrangements with GCT where their tickets are valid on the evening services they operate, and you can buy the £1 ticket on the app, I wonder if people would still be able to take advantage. Assuming the bus turns up of course!

Really positive move.
Looks like it can also be used on the X11, as long as you board after 7pm, if you just want to say you've been on the X11!

No idea where your area is, but if its operated by GCT as suggested above, then maybe you should write to Nexus to see what they're doing in order to encourage more people into towns/cities and boost the economy?

You mean Silverlink, Metrocentre and Boldon when everyone goes there after 5pm instead...

This is going for people who want to into town and use a taxi or whatever on the return journey not those driving in or those on the drink to choose a bus home instead if they leave earlier. Different market altogther. Alive after 5 is one of the best things Newcastle ever done and made the place attractive after 5 which can't be said about Sunderland or Durham which are ghosts towns.

You could go and wait for it at Billingham and hope that the driver doesn't miss it out.
