I think it’s to do so passengers can see individual routes and not having the same colour overlapping another route, Peterlee the same

TBH when I looked at that map even I was really surprised at how vast GNE’s network appears.
I guess in person it feels so much less so probably due to each route/area having its own liveries, names etc, whereas personally I feel if I visited another part of the region and spotted the same looking buses (eg GNE corporate buses) I’d think oh look I can get GNE buses here too - they’re all over - I could practically get a bus anywhere!
Whereas someone from Blyth visiting Silksworth for example would probably not recognise their Cobalt & Coast buses from back home being part of the same network as these weird Sunderland District food buses passing them in Sunderland.

I find it odd that this map doesn’t include East Rainton (where they actual serve) but mentions places like Shadforth (where the don’t). I do wonder if including 59 and 239 is a bit misleading you can’t actually get to Thornley or Fishburn with Go North East outside of limited Sunday and evening buses respectively. I notice the 135/136 in Sunderland isn’t included, from what I can see.

The 59,239,135,136 are all secured services and not on GNE own network

Yes I’m aware of that, that’s sort of besides the point (as long as normal ticketing options are available) the public don’t know nor do many care to know about that detail. My point is having a network map saying you have a bus to Sedgefield and Trimdon when actually it’s for 3/4 evening runs past 6pm is perhaps misleading. Same for the 59. I get the point they’ve included all bus routes though, so there’s an argument that leaving them off is therefore omitting important information.
The 135/136 are not on the map, 59/239 are.
It’s a nice map, has there ever been a map of the whole network before, not that I’m aware of (of course Nexus and Durham council used to do their own maps years ago)

Durham County Council still produce their own map
here. Slightly out of date now (last updated September 2020) but hopefully an updated version will be available soon.

Nothing for all the operators. There's separate route maps for both Arriva and Stagecoach though.
Arriva you can find at:
https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/north-east then selecting a town where you want to see around and it'll show the route map for that area. It's a shame they're so hidden as they're actually decent maps especially showing where boundaries are, here's SE Northumberland for example:

Both are still right pretty much since they haven't changed their routes for years.

Yes there was, but it was published 31 & 1/2 years ago
I still have copy of a map with the title:
"This is Go-Ahead Northern Country - Route Map 1990/91"
It cost 20p and the information was correct as at March 1990.

Finally wonder if the one at Asda Regent Centre has been changed. That still shows the 57 to Hadrian Park & 42/42A amongst other lads routes
