Just to decide if going out to see the 43/306/308/X10/X18 on Boxing Day is worth it or not I wonder if GNE will be allocating corporate vehicles, Xlines, Angels or what. Riverside could allocate pretty much anything, Deptford I guess is corporate, Voyager or CityRider?

306/308 will be Angels.
43/X10/X18 will be X-lines.

Thanks, Dan.

How did those allocations come about? I wasn't sure if there might be more variety.

Are Go North East tickets valid on those services on Boxing Day?

It's been stated on GNE website all along GNE tickets will be valid

My apologies, I didn't find it until you pointed it out. However there is no mention of the 43, X10 or X18.
What is going to be allocated to GNE's own services on Boxing Day? Are there going to be any interesting rare workings to look out for?

No information on tickets for the 43, X10 or X18. GNE tickets valid on the 306/308. Presumably GNE tickets will be valid on the 43, X10 and X18.

Allocations should be as follows...

Riverside
  • 6 - Volvo B9TL (Crusader)
  • 10/10A - Volvo B9TL (Tyne Valley 10)
  • 21 - Wright StreetDeck (Angel)
  • 43 - Volvo B5TL / ADL Enviro400 MMC (X-lines), interworks with services X10 & X18
  • 47 - Wright StreetDeck (Angel), interworks with Arriva services 306/308
  • 49/49A - ADL Enviro200 MMC (Green Arrow), interworks with 97
  • 51/52 - Volvo B9TL (Crusader), interworks with 53
  • 53 - Volvo B9TL (Crusader), interworks with 51/52
  • 97 - ADL Enviro200 MMC (Green Arrow), interworks with 49/49A
  • 306/308 - Wright StreetDeck (Angel), interworks with GNE service 47
  • X10 - Volvo B5TL / ADL Enviro400 MMC (X-lines), interworks with services 43 & X18
  • X18 - Volvo B5TL / ADL Enviro400 MMC (X-lines), interworks with services 43 & X10
  • X66 - Volvo B9TL (Go North East)

Sunderland
  • 2/2A - Wright Streetlite MH (Go North East)
  • 4 - Wright Streetlite MH (Go North East)
  • 26 - Wright Streetlite MH (Go North East)
  • 35 - Volvo B9TL (Go North East), interworks with service 60
  • 35A - Wright StreetDeck (X-lines)
  • 56 - Volvo B9TL (Cityrider)
  • 60 - Volvo B9TL (Go North East), interworks with service 35
  • 901 - Volvo B9TL (Voyager)
  • X1 - Volvo B9TL (Cityrider)
  • Taxis between Washington Galleries & Deptford - Optare Solo (Peterlee Purples)

The 56/X1 might throw up a few oddities (probably Voyager), as there's only one spare Cityrider (11 allocated for 10 PVR) and one spare fleet livery Volvo B9 (from 6049, 6086, 6087) but on Christmas Eve there were 5x Volvo B9s off service (4x Cityrider and 6087).

I didn't manage to get a Crusader on the 53 (so much going on today). Absolutely delighted to get a Loop on the 308!
Seemed to be really busy when I popped out today. Both in retail and in hospitality.

Not bad for all these people who never go out on Boxing Day...!

The Stagecoach Sunderland driver I am friends with told me the union chose Boxing Day as one of the strike days as "not many people travel on Boxing Day"

It's a fallacy. Total and utter fallacy.

You've either got the best part of 50 or 40k people converging on to either of the two City centres plus anyone else who fancies a trip for shopping or whatever else.

I don't know why there's this insistence that people don't travel on Boxing Day.
Were any of these buses supported by nexus full? Did they leave anyone punters behind at bus stops? Surely if nexus thought there was demand they would have ran services to the likis of dininginton, kibblesworth etc?

Also from what I've read most people attending the sunderland game yesterday used the car. Of course you could make the point about service being on strike but from the boxing day leaflet supplied by nexus sunderland seemed to have a canny service anyway?

Honestly I feel like all the operators need to make Boxing Day services, these are not just the services ran 362 a year.

It's crazy, and no doubt we'll have the same debate next year.

Those who live on a Metro line again benefitting from the postcode lottery, having two days of pretty much a weekday service, whilst the rest of us have pretty much nothing on boxing day followed by a Sunday service today.

I have a feeling that all the Boxing Day services, at least the GNE and Arriva ones, were subsidised hence nothing went into Durham. If stuff was done commercially no way would the 20, 21 (to Durham), 60 (to Seaham) and X45 not run (Durham CC didn't subsidise anything hence no service there).

Yes I think this was the case.

All of Stagecoach's boxing day services, bar the 7, were operated commercially.

In South Shields only the Stagecoach 3 and 4 were commercial.  The Stagecoach 10,11,E2 and E6 were all subsidised by Nexus.

Sorry, I should have specified I was referring to Stagecoach Newcastle.

Aye thought that would've been the case. Not surprised tho when they're losing money and have a shortage of drivers to be bothering with it.
