It will be intriguing to see what happens now Vivarail seem to be going the journey. 

All that investment, all that PR and now this.

It's almost as if BEVs is a silly idea when it comes to trains when electrified lines work so well.

In fairness there's space for them, something like the Blyth and Tyne line would be ideal for them. Charge up from Benton to Newcastle and then run the rest of the line.

I think the bigger problem is their awful ex London Stock and the PR from running them would be terrible. Pacer v2 pretty much. There's also plans from Porterbrook to convert their Class 350's similarly which will be much more desirable not to mention the Hydrogen Flex project which is the future for longer lines imo, believe they have a 600 mile range with a 15 minute refuel so would be ideal for all the local North East routes really.

Still a number of Class 319's to convert to whatever spec Northern wish... pan up/down at Benton Jn and battery/fuel cell there and back on the B&T. Superior capacity to a 156 and actual lower running costs as well..

Aye you're right, mind hopefully they join the Vivarail units though at the scrapheap to be honest.

Hate the Class 319/769's really outdated trains and about par with a Class 156 (well they're virtually identical). London castoffs at their finest and there's been much better trains going to scrap heap lately, Class 365's in particular.

True, the 365s are great units but I'm not sure how suitable they would be given their weight. Same with the 350's, more adept to local work but very heavily built, like the 185s.

The 319/769 wins out on weight and running costs, but of course aren't the best fitted out units aroun.
