RE: Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes v2 - Stanleyone - 18 Dec 2019

(18 Dec 2019, 10:48 am)pbjd Hopefully the new interworking will allow increased running times, although the introduction of more reliable buses would help too.
Don’t know if true but cascades of the red kite (Streetlites) have been rumoured

RE: Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes v2 - streetdeckfan - 18 Dec 2019

(18 Dec 2019, 11:38 am)Jamie M What's your point?! That we should or shouldn't be speeding???

I'm indifferent, I honestly prefer the drivers that have a heavy foot! (especially on the X21, some of the new drivers just dawdle along below the speed limit)
I was more making a point about the fact that I see very few people actually take notice of the 20 zone, it's common to even see Police drive through Whickham at 30

You, my friend, are deluded.

Speed limits are in place for safety, it's not up to us to alter them. My point is that we need more time to cope and to stop so many drivers speeding. More running time = less rushing around.

The more time spent rushing, the more bumps and issues for drivers. This is a very serious and real issue, which is experienced when someone ends up being hurt, or worse.

I honestly don't believe what I'm seeing you say and advocating speeding or driving "with a heavy foot". It's disappointing to say the least that this has to be explained.

In the case of the X21 I was talking about drivers actually driving the speed limit, it's probably because they don't know the roads as well as the Crook drivers, but some of them drive infuriatingly slow.

As for the 20 zone in Whickham, I don't believe that it needs to be a 20 zone all the way through, some parts definitely, but the majority of it should still be a 30.

I wasn't advocating speeding, just that I'm indifferent whether people speed or not, and I used the term "with a heavy foot" to juxtapose the next point about drivers dawdling, not to take literally.
I actually really dislike going fast, I much prefer fast acceleration to raw speed

I would've guessed the Mercs displaced by the upcoming service changes, as well as the interworking. Guessing it means another brand being lost as well as the Toon Links.

Although, it depends on the Newcastle LEZ really doesn't it, do buses have to be Euro 6 to not get fined? I imagine it would be easier to upgrade a Streetlite than a Merc.

Aren't the Streetlites already at Euro 6?
And doesn't the proposal for the LEZ say they have to be both Euro 6 and newer than 2012
My memory isn't the best so I could be wrong on both fronts!

Possibly, in regards to them being 2012 and newer, as the B9s that have been upgraded all have been the newer ones, although Stagecoach are keeping buses that are still older than 2012. I can't imagine it would be hard to upgrade any of the streetlites, they're not exactly dirty buses, and they're running basically the same engine as the newest E200s.

Neither can be upgraded - but there’s still a fair bit of time before every bus needs to be Euro 6, so yes, it will be Citaros allocated to the 6.

Are the service changes in the public domain yet?, personally I don’t know all the changes.

Nope - only registered with the traffic commissioner last Friday, but as driver briefings have gone out to depots, it won’t be long before the changes are “public” knowledge.

Who's gonna take one for the team and leak it then? (Obviously I'm not condoning breaching your employment contract or anything)

Great to see they've finally extended the X21 to West (where it should have went from the start!). I'm guessing the split at Durham is because the route would then be too long for a single journey like the X9/X10
Two major questions I still have is will it still terminate at Bishop Bus Station on a Sunday and will it run to West on an evening!
I also wonder if they'll change the route through Woodhouse as I don't think they can go to West without increasing the PVR (again) unless they cut out part of Woodhouse
