Also what condition did the bus look to you? Just wondering if it's heading for preservation or for scrap. I remember the brown dashboards standing out a mile. RE: Go North East: Former Fleet Members Living On - Rapidsnap - 30 Oct 2024 It looked in stored condition. And yes it's ex OK Travel one. Also uniquely the OK Travel Delta front section was higher up resulting in an extra step at the front entrance (and additional folding flaps on the door) whilst one step was needed to reach the rear part. Yeah I think the seat backs were the same colour as the dashboard. I think some of the Volvo B6s and B10s had similar interiors (30 Oct 2024, 1:22 am)Rapidsnap wrote It looked in stored condition. And yes it's ex OK Travel one. Thanks for this. Never noticed the entrances of the ex OK ones were higher up. Would be great to see this vehicle preserved as it is quite unique and there aren't many ex OK Travel buses in preservation that I know of. Was a big fan of the Deltas too. Great to ride and they could shift, and they had rock solid bodywork RE: Go North East: Former Fleet Members Living On - Rapidsnap - 05 Nov 2024 The Plaxton bodied Volvo B6s were to OK Spec. The Alexander bodied B6s and the Alexander Strider bodied Volvo B10Bs were dealer stock with standard interiors. Volvo B10B interior - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photogenic/49691935013 (interesting fact that 4809/4811 had green grab poles whilst the rest had yellow). 4975 (N950TVK) which was acquired from Redby also had a similar interior and also green grab poles. The Alexander bodied Volvo B6s (of which I don't have an interior photo of) also seemed to have various combinations. Though the M-RDC batch (8426-8431) seemed to be closest to OK interior with brown coloured plastic and no opening windows like the Plaxton bodied examples, but had the same red seat material as the Volvo B10Bs. The Plaxton bodied Volvo B6s also seems to have variations too however they all retained the same seat designs and lack of opening windows. 8401-8404 being to full OK spec, other batches had variation in grab poles and the colouring of the plastics. Interior of 8405 whilst on sale at Ensign Bus - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photogenic/52636078435 OK Travel M-Reg Mercs might have been the last vehicles to have the OK Travel seat pattern, though having grey plastics around the front dash. Here is the interior of M671RAJ which was registered RIL5885 with The Eden. https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photogenic/51098882924 RE: Go North East: Former Fleet Members Living On - Andreos1 - 05 Nov 2024 (04 Nov 2024, 9:34 pm)Washingtonian wrote Yeah I think the seat backs were the same colour as the dashboard. I think some of the Volvo B6s and B10s had similar interiors I put them in the same category of the 158 train. Modern, sleek and an improvement on the majority of 80s naffness that preceded it. Personally I'd have the Wright Pathfinder / Endurance as the Class 158 train, with the Solar/Eclipse being the Class 170 which is basically the more modern again Class 158 are both are workhorses. Almost ironic that the ironing board seats in modern trains are as good as Streetlite's so the trend has kept up. The Optare Delta / Scania N113's are more like the Class 156 imo. The last of the old, let's say but much better than the crap that preceded them. Maybe it's because they appeared around the same time, were a step change in what had been before - thinking the tinted windows, angles to bodywork etc. I remember thinking the carpet backed seats on the Deltas were a step up as well. I'd have ridden them both in and around the same time too (91/92) so must have seen enough at the time to make me think like that. Mind not such a good idea on a tube train unless you want to design a greenhouse. They aged horribly aswell in comparison to the 1996* stock which is a hell of lot more modern and isn't too dissimilar to the 09 stock really. 1996 stock are older than the 1995 stock, wasn't a mistake there* RE: Go North East: Former Fleet Members Living On - L469 YVK - 06 Nov 2024 (05 Nov 2024, 1:24 pm)Storx wrote Not sure I relate on that one mind. I'd say the Volvo Olympian at the time was way better than the Scania N113. Always a smooth ride on them with the humbling tune of the ZF / Volvo D10 combo! Although the Cummins L10/ZF combo in the Arriva Northumbria ex London & Country and M3** FTY batch was quite tuneful too! The Scanias had awful engine idling problems aswell which never got fixed. The Olympian is the equivalent of the intercity 125 imo. Proper workhorse and I wouldn't be surprised if a few would've still been on the road if DDA didn't kill them off. The Scanias had awful engine idling problems aswell which never got fixed. They were cracking motors combined with the stunning Palatine II bodywork! Don't know what eventually happened to S833 OFT, but such a shame that none of the Go Coastline S*** FVK/OFT or Northumbria M*** FTY / P*** CCU got preserved! They were always part of my childhood! Regular rides on the 356 and occasional 306 onboard (7)410-(7)420. North Tyneside was awash with Volvo Olympians at one time when Go Coastline moved 3830-33 from South Shields to Percy Main for the 308, then ironically at the same time, Arriva Blyth Depot ending up with some or all of 7370-76 (7377 was kept as spare at Hexham) when Hexham got the Tridents. Remember my first rides on them on the 308, one (I believe was (7)372) carrying the dark blue Pennine Windows livery, and the other still bearing NMS colours with 602 branding and a then newly fitted Wayfarer 3 ticket machine. Aye must say it's a type that we never really got purely Scania around here and whatever other crap Blyth had at the time. The other time they really came here was when they started the interworking with the 356 on the 57 and they were well past it at that point. Might a massive improvement on the Vario's. RE: Go North East: Former Fleet Members Living On - Andreos1 - 24 Nov 2024 https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14j7L1T5po/ 3738 entering preservation. That scream of power from the Voith & Cummins L10 combo! Think the closest sounding thing to these in more modern times was Arriva's Voith DAF/VDL DB250 ALX400's and Lowlanders. Had a sweet spot for the Lowlanders on the 308 for this reason despite the Urban 90 seats.....were a massive upgrade performance wise over the hairdryer ex 602 Tridents! RE: Go North East: Former Fleet Members Living On - L469 YVK - 24 Nov 2024 Thinking back on the ECW Leyland Olympians....I remember being buzzing when they covered the 308 twice, once for a Palatine II (2001) and the other presumably for a Loylne (think this was early 2003). Both were B***GCN and C***LJR examples. My favourite seat was the nearside forward axile near the drivers cab! On a side note.....are any of 3811-3833 still kicking about with private operators? Would be amazing seeing one of these fully restored into the Go Coastline livery! They're again another special vehicle as after the G reg Alexander Olympians for Go Ahead Gateshead, these were the first brand new deckers ordered by Go Ahead Northern / GAN Subsidary in nearly 10 years plus the first brand new deckers to be put into the GNE 1997 colours! |
