RE: Go North East - ... - 05 Jul 2013

On a different note not related to the 'Coaster Omnicities' (which in my opinion are problies just getting a new coat of paint since they are starting to look old and worn)
4991 is out on the 61s
4954 was out on the 56s but has been taken off in Sunderland

RE: Go North East - Dan - 05 Jul 2013

Prince Bishops Scania on the 56 and Lambton Worm DAF on the 28 - both at Wrekenton about 10 mins ago.

(03 Jul 2013, 5:52 pm)cbma06 wrote I was told by a Deptford driver this afternoon that there was an RTA just outside of Durham City this morning and a rear wheel came off the bus on service 20, don't know if it was a prince bishop branded bus or normal bus, forgot to ask him as I only spoken to the driver for a brief time.

I know that Arriva service 22 and 24 were heavily delayed this morning by the RTA so must of been between Gilesgate and Durham Bus Station.

Anybody got any updates about what the fleet number was?.

Been speaking to a driver today and got the following information:

what ive been told, without naming names, Another driver saw the back rear wheel start to wobble and reported it to control, control radio the driver, the driver checked only the front wheels and got the ok from control to carry on, then the wheel came off and while the bus was stationary a car went into the back of the bus as the car driver was not paying attention, the driver of the 20 was from Poland so there might of been a mix up of the English language, driver and controller been suspended until the safety people have been in to find out the reason, GNE checking all there buses at Deptford especially the scanias, the wheels on the bus used to have those yellow arrows on pointing to eachover but GNE stopped using them as the wheels used to get to hot and the triangles used to melt.

Those 'yellow arrows' seem to manage ok on the thousands of trucks pounding up and down the motorways, highways and byeways of Britain everyday, doing hundreds of miles.
They cost about 50p a pop and are perfect visual tools to identify if there are any issues with a wheel.

For GNE to disregard them seems bonkers, especially when you consider what happened in Durham.

Edit: Without knowing the full facts, it's difficult to comment fully - but it seems strange the fitter not being mentioned. The driver can't go round the vehicle with a wrench to check how secure his wheel is - he can only check them visually... For a wheel to come loose at that time of the morning, after 3 - 4 round trips previously?

Seems a bit heavy handed to suspend both. As Andreos1 has said, the driver can only do a visual check at best. Made extremely difficult without the yellow triangles.

On the subject of yellow triangles, it's actually insane to disregard the use of them. I'd be more concerned why wheels were getting hot enough to melt triangles, as if they're doing that, you wonder what it's potentially doing to the tyre.

Bit of interesting reading here about the use of them: http://www.roadhaulagesolicitors.co.uk/Loose_wheel_nuts.html

i always thought it was a good idea for the triangles, I remember GNE using them on the bus years ago, when the driver told me about the nuts being loose then I asked him that I thought there use the triangles but he said there stopped using them for awhile, has anybody noticed while there been out if there have seen if theres any triangles on the wheel nuts?, ive never really think to see the tyres when I see the bus going along the road, I was told by a driver that theres only so much there can do when there inspect the bus, I think it takes 2 to work the wrench as one has to hold it on the wheel nut while the other person presses down to make sure its tight.

RE: Go North East - Andreos1 - 06 Jul 2013

Never noticed, but it will be interesting to see if they reappear...

Aureolin hit the nail on the head when he mentioned about it being heavy handed to suspend the controller and driver.
How culpable are they? A wheel is obviously loose, there has been an obvious breakdown in communication somewhere down the line - but to repeat myself, why was the wheel loose in the first place?

Whether it was a fitter not doing their job properly, the other driver for not reporting back in sufficient detail, the controller for not being clear, the driver for not checking fully - who knows. But by removing that visual aid, GNE have hamstrung the driver as to what he can actually determine whilst in charge of a bus full of passengers parked on a busy road.

Not sure whether GNE would issue drivers with a wrench, but I would imagine the fitters use a pnuematic power wrench. As you say, there is only so much a driver can do.

That would be 5216 - see photo here.

(05 Jul 2013, 6:04 am)Daniel wrote "Coaster" branded OmniCity 5262 reported to be in the paintshop now, with the rest to follow suit also.
I'm sure someone will have a photo shortly to prove or disprove this! ;-)

Still being prepared - see photo here.

Slightly different note, here's one I don't think we've established previously... See here for photo.

Also, 3870 has returned to Percy Main following a long period of being VOR. Note that she has also returned with luggage racks for the upcoming Metro Replacements. See photo here.

Few odd workings from yesterday (06/07/13):
- "Cobalt Connect" Omnicity 5245 on service 9
- "The Centurion" Renown 5152 on "Coaster" service 1

RE: Go North East - Michael - 07 Jul 2013

Anyone know when GNE will bring out thier new magazine? I knew they said it would be soon after the first 1 but that was ages ago

RE: Go North East - Acky81 - 07 Jul 2013

Never ever seen one since first issue when Peter Huntley was MD @ go north east

RE: Go North East 5216 @ Saltmeadows - BFK - 07 Jul 2013

5216 is not the vehicle involved in the RTC in Durham, that was 5213. 5216 has been VOR for around a month now due to engine and gearbox problems.

Apologies, my assumptions were wrong! I'd already been corrected by someone else, and alerted to her having a presence in Saltmeadows since original Doxford Clipper repaints.

RE: Go North East - Andreos1 - 08 Jul 2013

Must admit, the photo of the Prince Bishop's with its front end being worked on - did confuse me too.

Apart from that, does anyone know anything about the 'artwork' that has appeared on the wall outside Chester depot?
It's located more or less paralel to the wash on the A167 side of the depot and at the moment, is a giant white squiggle. It appears to be too big to be graffiti, is plain white and also has some guidelines around the pattern.

Looks like everything that the late Peter Huntley did while he was MD at Go North East is all getting reversed (open line, brandings etc...)

It does, i forgot about openline, used to like going on their and bugging them to bits haha

Its a shame they going backwards on a few things Peter did but i hope they keep the main routes branded and get rid of the ones which mean nothing... such as the Highwayman, Diamond, Whey aye Five-0, Drifter, Laser.

The Diamond is one of the few brands that actually has some historical meaning. The Diamond Bus Company used to run services around the Stanley area, most notably, the Chopwell - Durham service which ran from Chopwell to Burnopfield through Rowlands Gill before closely following the current 43 route from Burnopfield to Durham.

I don't know where the garish orange livery came from though.

RE: Go North East - Michael - 08 Jul 2013

I didn't know that, thank's

I don't like the orange on it either.. would be better red/blue

RE: Go North East - Dan - 08 Jul 2013
