RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - omnicity4659 - 07 Dec 2015

Message I received this morning;
Tyne and Wear Metro travel alerts

Dear Tommy
Travel updates

There are no trains running between Pelaw and South Hylton in both directions until further notice. This is due to problem with the overhead line.

Bus replacement services are calling at or close to all stations in the affected area. Bus 900 between Heworth and Sunderland, bus replacement 901 between Sunderland and South Hylton.

Ticket acceptance on Go North East and Stagecoach buses in the affected area continues.

Trains are running to all other destinations but not to usual timetable.
Due to a technical fault the information boards on platforms are not working.

We are working to fix the problem as quickly as possible and will update you further once the issue has been resolved.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Michael - 07 Dec 2015

A reply from Tyne & Wear Metro - to a question asking when they'll be back on.

We're not expecting them to be running again today unfortunately. Replacement buses will still be accepting Metro tickets but please check back before you travel for up to date information.

Not good, with the weather we've had not surprised the metro has been affected badly.

Cue the massive amount of complaints though...

Glad i don't have to go to college tomorrow, hope its sorted by Thursday!

Will the independent companies continue to run the 900/901 or will GNE or Arriva provide a few extra buses?.

Haha, he could!

If its still the same on Thursday then i might not bother going to college, i'm not leaving earlier, i already leave at 7:50am to get to the college for 9:30am.... also i don't finish until 4:30pm on Thursday so getting home will be worse.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - JP6004 - 07 Dec 2015

No doubt the no deckers excuse will come up, that's a disgrace sticking a Solar on peak time much more suited to the 901 section as opposed to the 900 section.

Maybe but what if Deptford for example had all their decker's out, it can happen... its not like buses can be sent out straight away, drivers and so on have to be available.

If you think it's so easy allocating vehicles on an emergency replacement service, why don't you go and have a go.

I'm sure your professionalism will be welcomed.

The Majority of decker's from all depots will be in use on peak time extras ( Mostly Newcastle ) so simply cant be used.
Kingsleys put as much as they could for a last minute call up and withdrew some of their Tridents for there school services later in the day.

It has been very unprofessional in telling services from each other with Kingsleys having various scholars and " Bus 1 " etc services blinded on the Sunderland to Heworth section which was meant to be service 900 and GNE are running their buses blinded as 901 instead of the advertised 900 so 5201 is actually running on the 900 though is blinded for the 901
Also 5201 is arriving at Brockely Whins Metro now for Sunderland

Would be more of a disgrace in my opinion if Go North East took double deckers off normal service work and school services that need the capacity of a double decker to bail out a different form of transport system that has failed. It's far more important to think of the loyal GNE passengers who use their service on a daily basis rather than the people only using them as the Metro has gone to pot again.

Where do they get the extra buses from though? Thin air?

Any spare deckers are generally out on scholars and/or works services at peak times. I don't see why regular bus users should have to suffer, because Nexus and Metro can't get their house in order.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Michael - 07 Dec 2015

It seems people are complaining that NEXUS hasn't give much info out today and for tomorrows Metro replacement buses, like times they start etc.

Which tbh they're right.

They've been abysmal. There's no excuse for not getting comms out there.

They're also avoiding the reason of today's outage. Note their statement on the website covers what happened on Saturday, but avoids what happened last night.

A rather amusing post on Sort out the Metro today...  Big Grin

?On the twelfth day of Christmas, My Metro gave to me:
12 hours of delays to service.
11 trains withdrawn from service.
10 days of delays due to low rail adhesion.
9 different stories for disruption with no real info from customer services.
8 carriages so hot their customers were boiled alive.
7 days of power failure with no bus replacement service.
6 thousand people late for GNR due to lack of trains running.
5 thousand "Metro apologises".
4 carriages with faulty doors.
3 customers fainting due to overcrowded carriages.
2 dozen CSAs who are so apathetic that they've resorted to hiding in their mobile games.
And a hundred ticket machines out of service!!!
Well done Metro! ?

Communication is always the biggest bug bear when it comes to TOC's it seems but at least some sort of bus replacement have been issued to the affected area unlike for those poor passengers on the WCML between Carlisle and Scotland due to poor road conditions(although that reason should be less valid by now surely?)

I'm not sure what Nexus can do if by the looks of it, some sort of object have bought the OHL down and its down to Network Rail to fix it, its going to be hard to give a definate amount of time on how long it will take until NR gives them the all clear I guess.

I don't think the situation in Carlisle can be compared to the situation Nexus find themselves in.

If you're referring to the picture at the top of Nexus website statement, of what looks like metal sheeting on the line, it's not a photo taken near Brockley Whinns. Misleading, like the rest of their statement. Smile

Ahhh that pic was taken between Bede and Simonside regarding the incident which occured there on Friday night which is reported in that article(clearly I did not read it properly initially) so technically its not a misleading photo.

Why not? You could argue Virgin have a duty of care for their passengers like Nexus does. Now initially I do feel Virgin will have a valid reason of not operating replacement bus services because of the adverse weather but this appeared to still of been the case despite that. Reason why i would understand that reason is because why would the drivers of said coach company want to work overtime driving in dangerous conditions but once its clear and conditions are improving, I do feel more could be done but sadly in these situations, its not as easy as customers might think.

In this incident, the reason why bus replacements can't be sourced right away is down to a lack of resources but looks like they got some sort of bus replacement going now albeit by an Independent operator so what will happen around school kicking out time when those buses will be needed for school runs?
