No concerns around Metro 'dualing' on South Tyneside.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Train8261 - 07 Oct 2021

Jesus a 12 week shut down between Pelaw and South Shields (I'm guessing) or Pelaw to Bede

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - 54APhotography - 08 Oct 2021

You have to remember the Jarrow tanks will still need to run, likely a temporary crossover will have to installed first at Pelaw and again at Jarrow to enable the tanks to run on the up whilst the down is relaid and mast seats sank. The NR line hasn't been touched in years and with (at peak) daily weights of 6500t at low speed has pretty much knackered it!

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Michael - 01 Nov 2021

We have been appointed by Nexus, the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive, to provide project control services across three major programmes.

The new contract will build on the global professional services firm’s existing programme management with Nexus and see it continue to work services across the transport authority’s Metro Futures, Metro Flow and infrastructure programmes.

Metro Futures is a major £500 million programme to modernise the busiest and most frequent light rail network outside of London to help deliver long term social and economic benefits for the North East.

The Metro Flow project is a £100 million track dualling scheme in South Tyneside to further enhance Metro services and boost capacity to provide an extra 24,000 customer journeys every day.

The capital delivery programme will upgrade and renew current infrastructure within the Nexus Service including Tyne Dock in South Shields, Ferry Landings in North Shields, Tanners Bank in North Shields and Christon Road in Gosforth.

Is it still "the busiest and most frequent light rail network outside of London"?

Think the Manchester Tram has long since gotten bigger than the Metro.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Andreos1 - 04 Nov 2021

I've not seen it mentioned so...
Just caught sight of an email to say that the P&R sites at the various Metro stations are offering free parking in the lead up to Christmas.
Someone may want to do some digging and see if they can find a link.

If there is metro replacements how do you pay for your tickets?

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - omnicity4659 - 26 Nov 2021

(26 Nov 2021, 1:16 pm)Keeiajs wrote If there is metro replacements how do you pay for your tickets?

Depends on the type of maintenance, for the major line  closures they'll fence off the station and offer the full range of Metro tickets on the bus, for short term closures/emergency replacements you purchase them from the Metro ticket machines.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - deanmachine - 26 Nov 2021

(26 Nov 2021, 1:16 pm)Keeiajs wrote If there is metro replacements how do you pay for your tickets?

You can buy them on the bus, but if you happen to be walking past the station on the way to get the bus, I'd recommend getting the tickets at the machines still as it speeds up the process, and will mean less delays on the bus.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Train8261 - 26 Nov 2021

Metro services have been suspended and blocked lines between Wallsend & Shiremoor.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - omnicity4659 - 26 Nov 2021

For the sake of clarity, Metro services are suspended systemwide.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - omnicity4659 - 27 Nov 2021

Yellow line (St James to South Shields) is anticipated to reopen tomorrow, whilst the green line (Airport to South Hylton) will remain closed.

Metro have ran a test train to South Hylton within the last couple of hours however this has since brought the wires down and the engineers are too busy working on the ECML at the moment.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - V514DFT - 02 Dec 2021

Whats peoples views on the total new metros being 46,im a bit 'hmmmm' on that figure, another not, looks like (what i presume) is 555001 is well underway (yes its confirmed they're Class number is 555),also any actual info on why the Willington Dene Bridge is still 30kmph (apart from it being old) 3 and a half years later,so much for temporary speed limit

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - omnicity4659 - 03 Dec 2021

They only need 36 trains for the current full timetable. More than enough, especially for the planned increased service to South Shields.

Love the Gazette's headline:

Metro and Shields Ferry passengers face ticket price hikes - here's how some can dodge paying extra

Does that mean we'll see the return of Checkywatch?

Although it is still believed that the first of the new trains will arrive in November, a delay to some subsequent deliveries is now expected. It is still hoped they will all arrive by the end of 2024 but this is less promising now.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Unber43 - 26 Apr 2022

From September this year, we’re closing the Metro line from Pelaw to South Shields for 12 weeks.
It’s for our Metro Flow project, where we’ll be upgrading and electrifying an existing freight line, meaning we can run more Metros, more frequently.
Which company is operating the cover inbetween the section of Pelaw & South Shields ?

Or what the PVR is?

Wonder how many vehicles GNE will operate, or if they will get some older one in from different companies

I read somewhere that it is a PVR of 22 and some spare with the Euro 5 min - surly Stanley Travel & JH will only be able to provide 5 each max
