Sunderland changes are (if internal posters are to be believed) timetable changes, focussing on peak times to try and reduce the impact of the peak on the rest of the day. They're also adjusting the, frankly, rediculous night timings on the Es.

Oh thats good then, hopefully they can sort it because atm, its horrendous.

RE: January service changes - F114TML - 18 Dec 2023

3/13:
"Minor changes to journeys on services 3 & 13 during am and pm peak to provide greater reliability. Following customer requests an addition service 3 journey added at 0500 from Wheatsheaf to Hylton Castle on Saturdays to match the MF equivalent journey."
4/16/23/71/72/72A/87/X63:
"Minor changes to journeys during am and pm peak to provide greater reliability." (or words to that effect).
10/11:
"Minor changes to intermediate times to improve reliability and co-ordination between service 10 & 11 on common sections." (???)
18:
"0657 journey from Gilley Law to Sunderland retimed to depart Gilley Law 0652 and to operate 5 minutes earlier throughout."
20:
"Service rerouted inbound via the A1231 & Burdon Road rather than City Hall to assist reliability. Minor changes to am and pm peak journeys to improve reliability." (20 has already been doing that route since the end of October so they're just making it permanent)
E1/2/6:
"Minor changes to journeys during pm peak and also between the 1800-1930hrs period to provide additional reliability."

Are the timings really that bad, I've looked and most/all buses (might have missed a couple) ran on time on Saturday Night

RE: January service changes - F114TML - 18 Dec 2023

Yes, they are, and you clearly missed my bus cos I was 8 minutes late at one point on Saturday. Got it back eventually but only by driving like an absolute madman and GreenRoad was sobbing. Helped no one got on either.

On the Es, there's some times you only get 7 minutes to go from Wheatsheaf to John Street, drop off, go round to Fawcett Street, pick up, and get back to the Wheatsheaf. Physically impossible.

On the 4 one night, left Doxford Park on time and got to the Prospect 2 mins late, despite not picking anyone up.

Although its not really helping reliability, the 20s often end up running in 2s (as they have been since 10am this morning). I do agree its a better route through the city centre though. One day last week there was 3 out of the 4 buses running together!

RE: January service changes - Unber43 - 18 Dec 2023

Currently tracking the 20 only actually has 1 bus on the route with 3 others running dead to various places

The bus which is running is 30 mins late, and the 3 running dead are between 15-35 mins late

5 mins layover at Sunderland and 1 at Pennywell needs to be improved atleast 5 mins either end

RE: January service changes - F114TML - 18 Dec 2023

Thing is, in the am peak buses get delayed because everyone's buying megariders etc in addition to more passengers. Bus one runs 15 min late so gets turned to put it back on time. Bus 2 then picks up twice as many people as it dhould, so starts running late. Eventually it gets turned. Bus 3 then......... eventually bus 1 needs turning again. I think these changes are designed so bus 1 shoildnt be turned in the first place.

RE: January service changes - Unber43 - 18 Dec 2023

So a PVR increase?

RE: January service changes - F114TML - 18 Dec 2023

Maybe, probably just reduced frequency .

Whatever it is will hopefully help, but won't solve the problem.

Going off of Dan's response I'm sure GNE have gotten in somewhere...potentially splitting it SG-NCL & NCL-HWT. This is unlikley and a stupid way if it is done that way. Unless the SNE are extra 900's and GNE have 900's running the whole route? Just smizing....
