Actually, if Percy Main got the Mercs (don't think they will mind), could GNE not do this:
- Make service 19 part of the Cobalt Clipper brand or keep Cobalt Connect but with no route specific information bar:
" Links to North Tyneside and Northumberland to and from Cobalt"
- Fonts etc similar to the Cobalt Clipper.
- Fit the Mercs with USB points, Free Wi-Fi and NSAs.
- On Sundays during quieter periods, 5x of the Mercs could be used on Cobalt Clipper services 309 / 310 to reduce fuel costs.
I don't know whether or not GNE would actually save any money in doing this by the time the extra amenities would be installed though.
