So yes, more or less all of these will be showing destinations with the large terminal point now. The buses with the older controllers will be updated by the end of this month to allow everything to have the new scholars/work service destinations programmed in... This is when the whole fleet will be large terminal point only.
Buses fitted with the newer Next Stop Announcement system will also start to make better use of the feature to automatically change the destination display based on GPS location. This is already being done successfully on the daytime 81-84 services (changing destination to the next route at The Galleries), as well as on the 42A and X9/X10 services where the service is split in the middle of the route. Services such as the 21 and X9/X10 with the newer system will start to show "Eldon Square" as the terminal point as they approach Gateshead Interchange, while services such as the 27 will show "Market Street", making it clearer to people waiting to board a bus in Gateshead where the Newcastle-bound service terminates.
Ah thats brilliant!
I really like the large terminal point only destination screens, so much clearer, simpler and more modern. When I see scrolling screens now I think how messy they look. In town I often think oh so that (passing GNE) bus goes to [wherever], whereas I never really notice or pay attention to passing Stagecoach or Arriva buses with their cluttered scrolling screens.
Really looking forward to seeing Newcastle city street names appear too, rather than just 'Newcastle'. Impressive work GNE.
