2004 was the last time I travelled around on buses on a boxing day. Only other time I did it was 2002 IIRC where Classic had a Leyland National out.

Go North East didn't run on Boxing day in 2003 or 2004. (Can't remember if they did 2005)

Got a few photos from that day. No idea when they be uploaded to flickr.

Go North East may do the most out of operators up here, but it's still not meeting the demand of the public. You are still a service aren't you?

All these Saturday and Sunday services on normal working days don't help either, when people have to start work at 7am or 8am for example.

I think you've got that one completely wrong as the comment stinks of nothing, other than to say that another operator isn't running anything on Boxing Day - at times people need to remember that buses are a business and you have to cover your costs of operation.

Don't know if its been mentioned, but the number on the X1 blind is now solid white with no background. At least it is on 6053! Is this new or have I just not paid enough attention? Tongue

Isn't the renewal date for the QuayLink contract for 2015?
Which route(s) are to be "upgraded" to midis from minis as of tomorrow? Isn't this meant to be a trial of some sort to see if it can justify a better cascade in future as things didn't stack up for it to happen this year?

Believe so Dan. It'll be interesting to see what Nexus do. I can't see anything other than a short term contract being tabled initially, because depending on what happens with QCS, you could potentially be overlapping on contracts to run the service.

In service on "Saltwell Park" services 53/54 today were 8339, 8340, 8342 and 8346.

8341 was spotted on road test ready for service tomorrow this afternoon, whilst 8344 spent the day at Gateshead Interchange for driver familiarisation purposes as well as waiting 'on standby'.

As a result, the vehicles previously used on "Saltwell Park" services 53/54 are cascading down to other services.
Optare Versa V1110/Optare Versas 8294-8302 are in the process of being repainted into a lilac base livery for use on "South Tyne" services 88/88A, which in turn allows the Cadets which are currently allocated to those services to be repainted into Go North East's corporate livery. 8247 and 8251 have been repainted into "Northern" livery so far, and 8250 has arrived at Saltmeadows depot and should have been prepared for its repaint into "Northern" livery on Monday.
These Cadets will be allocated to services M2/M3, enabling the remaining "Washington Street Shuttle" branded MPDs to be withdrawn. Recently repainted MPDs 566-569 will also transfer to Percy Main, so that MPDs 504, 505, 514 and 517 can be withdrawn from the fleet.

Has any of the versa's transfered yet?

(17 Nov 2013, 3:14 pm)Michael wrote Has any of the versa's transfered yet?

I noted 8296/8297 departing Gateshead depot at about 10:45am - I'm guessing that the ones which were at Gateshead would have also transferred too.

569 still remains at Washington depot for now. Similar to 605 at Deptford, it has been VOR and was unable to be transferred to its new depot (Washington in 605's case, Percy Main in 569's case). This will mean that one MPD from Percy Main that should have been withdrawn is likely to remain in service temporarily.

In service today on Metro Replacement service 900 were:
- Chester-le-Street based Volvo B7TL/Plaxton President 6018/6019
- Chester-le-Street based Dennis Trident/East Lancs Lolyne 3804/3874
- Winlaton based Volvo B7TL/Plaxton President 6018
- Washington based Volvo B9TL/Wright Eclipse Geminis 6005/6049

Not for a couple of months yet, I understand... Not sure why such information has hit the public domain at such early notice, when things can quite easily change in two months!
I was dying to question it when I first saw that post on Facebook, as it seemed far too early to be releasing such information.

Ah right, I thought is seemed odd that they had just transferred to Stanley.

CatsFast - Not for the 15/15A I don't think. 4912/3/4 were all on the X30/X31/X70/X71 through the week, along with 4847.

Not a bad thought that Tom, Just to add to that 4 Omnicities for the X7 Possibly instead of 4 Solar if that were to happen, with the other 6 as we know heading to Chester for the 50

But how will Go North East then withdraw all of the SPDs from the fleet? It seems like quite a long-winded task to repaint all of the Renowns that are currently branded as "Centurion" into "Northern", given that they should be withdrawn next year (in accordance with the 15 year "age limit" of each vehicle).
Malarkey   17 Nov 2013, 5:31 pm
(17 Nov 2013, 5:09 pm)Tom wrote You'll be stuck with Cadets for a while yet

Bet you a Tenner, Bazza sent like million complaints to GNE about how bad the Cadets are once he heard the Versas were to go onto the M2/M3 earlier this year, And got GNE to change there minds, and in exchange he has a free pass to trespass into any Depot of his Choosing without getting into any form of trouble.

Meanwhile us M2/M3 Passengers are stuck into a "Fiery Hell" of a Unreliable Service where we'll get stuck on that One Lane Bridge in Harraton as a Cadet on the M3 has Burst into Flames after one to many trips up that steep bank in Birtley.

And then whilst we are Burning to Crisp in Harraton, Bazza is out and about taking a Video of the Versas on the 88/88A in Hebburn, much like this one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBVkUMFg7Rk
