(22 Sep 2016, 8:29 pm)busmanT It's expected to be done in the next few weeks, along with 5248 & 5249, once the next 8 OmniDekka from Brighton and the Solo from Thames Travel have been painted.

Will 5248/49 go "Go North East" again?

It just seemed strange to see them consecutively (one headed to Newcastle, the other to Hexham then returning towards Newcastle).

(22 Sep 2016, 7:07 pm)Jamie M One makes a loud noise every time the driver touches the brakes. Other than that, they're pretty much like any other omnicity. I take X31s daily and they're no bother. I'm not sure why they're so badly hated to be frank.

Same here. One of those X31/30 Omnicities smells oily, but they're good vehicles which seem to function well on difficult routes. I think the main issue with them is a certain amount of Thoroughbred flakiness, which is more of a problem for the operator than passengers. I always enjoy a ride on them.

They are also renowned for falling to pieces. I remember 5253's CCTV camera panel at the back just fell down onto the seat randomly. Wouldn't like that falling on my head, but it's no worse than 5337 and it's murderous doors!

Today has seen 3963 on TEN duty - difficult to drive as engine idle is very fast so little throttle makes it surge forward.
It gives the impression of a clumsy driver (as passengers were being thrust forwards and backwards) but it was obviously not the driver at fault.

Also, on X84/X85 was 5210 (Tynedale Links).

I'm no great fan of Omnicities (although I like Streetlites even less), but that sort of thing isn't appropriate, no matter how much we might hate a vehicle or type. In defence of Omnicities, they're quite comfortable old barges, and quite fast when let off the leash, much better than a Solar for a Durham to South Shields run, for example.

Get the X32 to stanley on an evening weekday. They all blast up the A693 without much trouble.

My first experience of knowing I was on an omnicity was on one of the non limited Arriva examples when it was still on the 21A - blasted uphill, approaching 'boro, overtaking a load of cars, we did Big Grin
