Watching with interest the earlier speculation about the MPD's at Peterlee and the X7 buses.
Rumors going around is that there are going to be versas heading to Peterlee, but how they'd get around the 209 I don't know, especially at Alder Road. Just to throw another spanner into the mix, there are now 7 spare drivers in the depot. Are they getting extra services, or increasing frequencies of something? Any ideas?

Edited my smelling mistook... Tongue

Nothing to do with that, look at what's happening to the Omnicities, they are being moved around into a more regular fleet order as before it was pretty messed up! 5251-5252, 5262-5272 are Coasters. So 5151-5159 will stay put, while 5160-2 transfer to Percy Main (5160/1 for the 17, 5162 Northern), 5164-5166 then transfer to Saltmeadows for the 67/69.

Basically:
5151-5161 for 17
5162 Northern
5163-5166 Pulse

Overheard a conversation between drivers saying there's 7 drivers on the spares rota, and they've never known it before...

Tbh GNE should just keep whats branded untill they change the buses... once again we find buses being painted and changed around few months after their done...they should of thought of that before they branded them

Could be drifter ones? I think pretty much confirmed that Washington are getting the Saltwell park ones. I think out of all the MPD's allocations Peterlee (and Percy main) is probably the two that would be more suitable for Versa's with solos been more ideal for Hexham & Consett. The numbers for the solos would fit Into them been for Venture or another possibility is that they are for TyneDale Links & the remaining Washington Street Shuttle (W5/W6).

It is happening with the Omnis at Percy - nobody has complained about those?
Don't really think having a uniformed and orderly fleet is a bad thing at all.

Maybe not but it is pointless, whats gonna happen if they increase the 1 (for example) and they need a extra 3 buses.. are they gonna paint everything again so its in order?

Known GNE they would.. its stupid, just keep it the way they are.

How is it happening with the omnicities? are 5260/5273 getting painted blue so the coasters have the same numbers? and 5251/2 going cobalt clipper??

It'll be the Solars they do next. There all over the place. But I'm not sure it really matters.
gtom   26 Aug 2013, 2:54 pm
On the whole branding thing (sorry it's not in the branding thread) but Go Ahead are hardly a little local company anymore.

I really wish they'd go with a generic corporate Go logo a la Stagecoach and Arriva.

They could still have branding if they needed it but it'd be so much easier (highly dull for enthusiasts mind)
...   26 Aug 2013, 3:01 pm
I just dont see how it matters whether 5164 is centurion branded or 5160 they are the same vehicle from the same batch, i think it is just rumours because if they were going to do that they wouldnt have painted 5164-6 up in the first place when they withdrew the 69A

Various stories are circulating in regards to how the Omnis will be numbered because of the issues with one or two of them.
Look at 3964 - it is essentially being used as a "cash cow". I could be wrong, but unless its engine issues have not been sorted, it is terribly unreliable and can't last a full day out in service. In the event of it being utilised on the "Tyne Tees Xpress" X9/X10, it has had a tendency of being removed after one run.
That said, providing original plans are to go ahead and those vehicles that need to stay local are fixed properly instead of the shoddy job usually done, the fleet should be as follows:
5243-46: Cobalt Connect
5247-50: Northern
5251-60: Cobalt Clipper
5261-74: New Coaster

5250 is repainted from "Cobalt Clipper" to "Northern".
5251/2 are repainted from "Coaster" to "Cobalt Clipper".
5261 is repainted from red to "Coaster" and transferred from Stanley to Percy Main.
5273/4 are repainted from "Northern" to "Coaster".

Regarding the reliability of Omnicitys -
At the back end of May, a "Cobalt Connect" Omnicity made it onto "Coaster" 1 on a Sunday. Whilst it is not uncommon to see these on the 9 on Sundays, it certainly doesn't happen on the 1 too frequently.
This is reported to be as a result of nine Omnicity VORs. Nine.
Percy Main struggles for a reason - the chronic unreliability of their fleet is dreadful.
Andreos1   26 Aug 2013, 3:14 pm
This may be me being overly simplistic, but instead of repainting the Omnicities or whatever else, so they are in fleet order and allocated numerically, why don't they just re-number the vehicles?

Edit: re 3964, whether it is true or not - I heard the Real Radio advert was basically (their words - they shall remain anonymous - not mine) "blagged"
...   26 Aug 2013, 3:18 pm
I know i read the same post on facebook- but how will what your saying about re-painting all these omnicities into numerical order improve reliability of them?
Dan   26 Aug 2013, 3:26 pm

When did I suggest Go North East were repainting the Omnicitys to improve the reliability of them? I brought that up as another factor to add to the mix of possible things happening to them, using 3964 as a current "cash cow" example and the reasons for that.
They are being repainted so that they will be in a normal allocated set, thereby standardising the fleet. If any movements were to occur in the future, the Omnicitys should still be in similar groups and they could all move together as one. This was confirmed at the start of this month by one of our Go North East representatives. I now cannot find the post - though I can find my posts made in response to Michael who questioned why it was happening, and me quoting the words of the source of the information.

Perhaps they're using 3964 as a cash cow, with all proceeds going into a piggy bank for a new engine? Wink

(26 Aug 2013, 3:38 pm)Rob wrote I don't believe I confirmed standardisation of the fleet, someone else may have, but I certainly did not. The reliability of the Omnicity is becoming a problem, and a number are allocated to local service primarily. The Coaster is hardly a local service, its a long haul local link.

I seem to have quoted the words of you, though I can no longer see your post in which I originally quoted these from.
Not sure what happened. :s

In no way am I suggesting it's going to happen universally, I was just pointing out that it does appear to be happening with the Omnicitys at Percy Main so it wasn't too much of an irrational suggestion from Tom that the dual door B10BLEs were having the same thing done.

Very limited Sunday service as expected (2 runs each way) as we've obviously not got commuter traffic

£21.80 for 7 days travel (though you'd probably not use Sunday/Saturday if your working or 5 out of 7)

Journey time an hour which isn't too bad but that's going to massively increase due to the congestion on West Road (which is horrific) and the a69

The train is £30 and certain journeys take just 30 minutes
