Wouldn't want to ride it from Newcastle, 308 or 309 is your best bet.

Just calculated the journey time as 1hr 32mins using the 09:44am journey from Wrekenton to Whitley Bay arriving 11:18am on Sundays. Somebody may want to double check though.

I'm coming from Newton Aycliffe!!! Most of you's don't know the true meaning of 'long journey' and to make matters worse it looks like I will be heading to Bishop Auckland first which is completely the wrong direction!

Not to mention long periods of time standing waiting due to poor connections and I have an hourly service, you lot in Tyne and Wear don't know the pain of sitting in Durham Bus Station for around an hour waiting for a bus!

Not sure how I am getting there yet but it looks like I'm getting the train to Bishop Auckland to start with.

What is it that people don't like about omnicities out of interest? I quite like them although what does annoy me about them is they only have 3 seats at the rear and most importantly, the 2 seats furthest to the right are the ones blocked off. It would be fine if it was on the other side!

I find they get really stuffy inside. They were meant to be air conditioned, but it's never really worked! After you get past that, there's also the issue that you need to be about 4ft tall to get your legs behind the seats in front.

Here's hoping! Would be much better sitting on one bus all the way up to Whitley Bay rather than 3 with lengthy connection times between each bus.

The lack of leg room, most rattle like mad (especially 5274) and I find them uncomfortable

The ones on the Coaster are always really warm. It's lovely in the winter, but not so nice at all during the summer. I think they are decent apart from that.

I've yet to try that one, but having had the configuration pointed out to me whilst at the Durham Rally, I can't see any attempt ending well! 

I might try it on one of Stanley's examples, and Marcus can provide a review on it.

Far easier to get the bus though, e.g

309 - 42 minutes approx. 
Metro - 24 minutes to Haymarket + 15 minutes walk approx = 39 minutes.

So not much different, and the bus saves you walking.

Traveline has brought up using the 309, being GNE and requiring a key card to get child fares and not knowing how much adult fares are, wants me want to use Metro for £1.20.

i spoke to a Whitley Bay resident who has lived there all of her life and ive known her for about a year said its a 15 minute walk 10 years ago i walked the same distance from my own house down to my Grandma Bella (Not my cat) and Step-Granda and there house is near a pub

it will be easier for you to travel more or less will only take you about half hour on 17 but for me its the good old Metro i prefer the walk for the metro it exercises my knees might get 1 bus back to North Shields then 9 then 88 or 27 which ever one turns up first

For you would be 1 as it saves you change buses for me Metro all the way there without changing trains then walking it my train usually would say St James via The Coast or St James via Newcastle only bits of walking I'll be doing is from my house to metro then from Whitley bay to car park and thus a little daily exercise all the way
