(06 Oct 2015, 8:20 am)BusLoverMum wrote Well NX55 FFS (how apt) is trundling around the 58 route, today. The rear (roller) blind is displaying 16, with a bit of the 9 showing.
One issue is most Scarlet Band drivers will not usually put anything on the side and rear roller blinds, they are normally just left blank, but the regular driver on the 16 usually puts the 16 on the side and rear blinds, saw the ex Nottingham Solo showing the 16 on its rear blind on the 16 the other week.

I wonder how that would go down in the new year, when the rules tighten up.

You can display any number so long as it's 16.

From January many Scarlet Band buses will not be DDA compliant because the service number is displayed on the incorrect side on most of the front LED screens and then there is the lacking of appropriate side destination equipment.

Last time I was at their garage there were 2 minibuses in all over white.

Does anyone know if these have been repainted yet?

Charles

The new to them solo was still white the last time it passed us. If you're counting the E200s, most of them are still white, apart from MX10 KNW

Not sure which "minibuses" you are referring to Charles, but the Solos seem to be getting repainted into the fleet livery at the moment, at least one of the two 06 reg examples have been done recently and as I noted yesterday the ex JSB Travel Solo MX56NME has now been done as well. Hopefully the only service buses that should not in the standard Scarlet Band livery (excluding service 16, 20, Durham Park & Ride Solo SR's and the special 90th anniversary Solo) should hopefully be YN04LWM and four out of the five Enviro 200s and here's hoping they get done to. Also hope YN04LWM also gets an LED screen, sick of the destination blind only saying "SERVICE" on the 113.

Sorry should have given more information in my previous post. The minibuses were 16 seaters with wheelchair access. They were either Volkswagen LT35s or Mercedes Benz 313s. I guess they must use them on schools contracts. I've seen them out and about at Bishop Auckland bus station and Coxhoe.

Are you sure about that?  TrentBarton have just put refurbished solos onto the V1 route.  Not only is the route number on the left, but it is in a different colour (white LEDs rather than the yellow of the destination).  Similarly the Rainbow One has the coloured route descriptor to the left, as have the new 65 plate Volvos for the TWO.
Added to that First have just put 4 new Wright Streetdeck into Gloucester with the number on the left.....

DDA Guidelines dictate that the number must be display on the door side of the vehicle so it can be easily seen from the pavement if in a queue of vehicles. All operators should be changing the display on single deckers over before the end of service on the 31st December. From the first day of service in 2016, all single deckers must meet the DDA guidelines.

All trentbarton destinations have the route number/colour on the left. It is easily changed though.

Saw it for the first time in the flesh, when it was kicking about on the Chester services yesterday.
Seemed in decent condition.

Don't know if it was on all day, but ....FFS was on, this afternoon and evening. No idea why that bit of the registration sticks in my mind Angel

I think there's a morning run that goes elsewhere rather than continuing in the 3 hourly Durham-Hartlepool-Durham loop, because there's often buses mentioned, in the morning that don't pass us in daylight.

There is an extra run on the 58 on weekday mornings and after it arrives in Durham I believe it then does services 110/111/112 from Spennymoor then later goes onto Newton Aycliffe Schools service 879 in the afternoon.

Seems to have been a few Solos on the 58 recently, presumably as there has been a few occasions where one of the Enviro 200s has been operating the Durham Park and Ride services and on weekdays the standard liveried MX10KNW has often been on the Chester-le-Street services.

Could always remember when I had NX55 FFS on the old 16 because of the last part of the registration.

Yep - someone had finally cleared 16 off the rear blind, the last time I saw it! Maybe they read here?

Over the past month, there's been a solo on more days than not. As I mentioned upthread, one of the E200s was on PR2, on Saturday. ....KNW did make an appearance on the 58 last week. First time in a while. The solos sound dreadful, up the hill, though.  Even the 14 reg one sounds nothing like the Indigos.

Yes, it's a bit past it now, isn't it? A complete contrast to their E200s, which I find to be a really nice journey.

YT51EAY is not the best and nor was YT51EAW, should hear them go down a straight A road, deafening and them two make some unusual noises. YT51EAY seemed to struggle up that hill between Millburngate and the roundabout where the bus station is when it was the regular bus on the 42/252 round Durham. YT51EAW "The Pink Bus" shook like hell heading over the cobbles at Feethams in Darlington, you thought it was going to drop to pieces. The E200s are alright, had them on the 85 and also the old 16.

Yep, my only issue with the e200s is back ache. They're fine on all the hills the 58 has to negotiate, though. Those older solos crawl up them.

EAY had been taken off by the evening, anyhow. Clearly a last resort for that route
