York and Leeds/Neville Hill crews do not sign 156s (the majority don't anyway) so they don't go there.

New Measurement Train, as mentioned above, is 'based' (don't like using that term) at Derby - ie that's where most maintenance is carried out and where the majority of turns start out from and finish at.

It's also worth noting that various units or locos will not end up at a certain depot all the time, mostly unlike buses. GC stable at Ferme Park as well as Heaton.
Slightly incorrect. The conductors at York and Leeds may not sign 156s but the drivers definately do as the Heaton 156s often venture to Neville Hill for tyre turning or York drivers will take one to Leeds if a unit needs to get to be taken to Manchester for North West services ASAP. Class 142s do have fixed depots and certain repairs / exams can only be done at the home depot. Refuelling and minor repeirs can be done at Neville Hill or Newton Heath

My apologies. However the number of drivers that do sign them must be very limited?
I don't see the point in whole depots training up on units they're going to take ECS occasionally. Same boat as Heaton/York/Darlington drivers signing Darlington to York via Northallerton with no booked services of their own (again excepting the odd ECS move from Neville Hill/Newton Heath). Surely those would do sign them would be drivers that were at York when 156s were the norm?

Heaton allocation is 142 015-027/9/50/64-68/70/1/8/9/84/86-96. 156 438/43/4/8/51/4/63/9/75/79-81/4 and 90. As stated 156 482 has been hanging around a lot recently so could be a transfer. 142 063 could also be now based at HT as that too has been hanging around since Christmas.

As posted earlier there's no fixed depots for 156 or 142s. You see plenty Allerton units up on Heaton runs and vice versa. 142s can be dotted around the place too.

Usually the 142s that are NH based tend to get back home pretty sharpish, however the AN 156s can hang around for a few weeks.

Incorrect again ALL York drivers sign 156s and most Leeds drivers. This is incase they have to take one at short notice from Newcastle - York / Leeds for a visiti to the wheel lathe at Neville Hil as Heaton does not have those facilities.
It is not an occasional ECS it is a nearly nightly ECS move (northbound Knaresbrough to Heaton empties, southbound Monday to Friday its 2221 Newcastle to Darlington then empties to York) plus any movements as required. Usually 2 X 142 but can have any combination of 142 / 156.
142s / 156s do have set depot allocations however the unit diagrams can have a Heaton unit in Lancashire or it may have been as a result of a set swap at the start of the day. As mentioned if a Ex FNW 142 ends up in the northeast (especially the ex merseyrail examples) they don't last long before being swapped back

Heaton does have a Wheel Lathe as Neville Hill 158s and Newton Heath 142s and 150s have visited in the past for that very reason.
Though it isn't daily, If Neville Hill is busy on other units that's when they get sent up here.

Yes there is a Knaresbourgh to Heaton ECS after a peak time Leeds - Knaresbourgh, It is also indeed booked for 2x 142s though no 156 should ever appear there, 1x 142/1x 150 can sometimes happen at the most, The 1x 142 being a Heaton unit worked up the night before to work the day on Heaton's Diagrams in Yorkshire and the 1x 150 visiting Heaton for maintenance when Neville Hill is too busy.
If its 2x 142s then both will have ran up the night before and done what ive mentioned above.

Heaton Units are Diagrammed to appear in Lancashire daily, The Cumbrian Coast has a handful of diagrams utilising a Heaton 156 and on 1 or 2 a 153 attached too.
These units work from Heaton on either the Tyne Valley extension to Whitehaven or through a Tyne Valley service which terminates at the through WCML platforms around 1600-1900 time and works the next Cumbrian Coast service out.

Some North West units have ended up here though it Heaton 156s in the North West happens way more likely than a North West unit up here.

HT does have 7 former FNW 142s allocated which are frequently seen in the NE. 142 023/7/9/64/67/68 and 70. 063 seems to be a regular up here now so suspect this is now allocated to Heaton.

Could be the case, Maybe explains why a few Heaton 156s are over at Allerton frequently.

I have changed the thread name in relation to the recent franchise change (albeit a month old); thus to reflect the new name of the company.

Not been reported yet, But 1 month ago to this day 150275 made its debut for the class on the Tyne Valley Line, Albeit not in passenger service.

It was running with 158752 on 5Z58 to Kilmarnock for refurb into Arriva's new interior and I wouldn't be surprised if the new livery is put on too.

Some comments and observations from a recent trip.
Notices on trains are gradually being replaced.
You can now send complaints to the 'Customer Experience Centre'.

The S&C 156 spent yesterday scooting between Darlo and Saltburn.
It has yet to receive audio announcements etc.

I overheard the ticket inspector/guard/train manager (on said 156) talking to a senior manager (I can't remember his name), who were discussing new stock and the quote 'hopefully we will have more of these arriving in a few years' came from the senior manager.

Who mentioned a monoploy? Angel

On a separate note, the title of the thread keeps changing.
I note there is no reference to previous ops within the title now - despite 99% of the thread being dedicated to the previous operator  (as opposed to the VTEC thread, which maintains previous TOC details in the title).

Did they not think about that during the bidding process, instead of investigating 2 months after Arriva took over the franchise?

I mentioned it in December on the day the winning bidder was announced. I am sure it was also mentioned in eezypeazy's thread on the day the bidders were announced - maybe 2 years ago. How and why 'top brass professionals' couldn't see it, is beyond me.

Northern looks to be putting on extra services between Darlington and Bishop Auckland during the Flying Scotsman & the Shildon Shed Bash Event at Shildon Locomotion which starts on Saturday July 23rd and runs until Sunday 31st July. This will effectively create an hourly frequency rather than the usual 2 hourly service between these two points.
