You could well be right! With 28x StreetDecks going to Consett (as well as 3x E400MMCs):

- 14x X45/X46/X47

- 3x X30

- 3x X31

- 5x X70/X71

- 3x X5/X15

- 3x spare StreetDecks

This could mean that the Consett extension will most likely be peak times only to reduce dead mileage maybe or evenings & Sundays for that matter?

Lots of inter working patterns, so the numbers might not be correct.

I think it's finding the right balance. Priced right enough, so that existing pass holders use the service OR pricing it in such a way, that it becomes viable for families to use the service.

Families not living in the Tyne Valley are looking at driving all the way to Hexham (which defeats the point in getting the AD122 - might as well drive the rest of the way) or buying a family ticket of some sort, on top of the AD122 ticket.

Add any other costs on top and the service just isn't an option for many.

I suppose it depends where and when you're boarding or getting off.

If a Q3 isn't due, but this open topper is and you're trying to get to the Quayside from The Ouseburn, then the open topper could be an option.

Whereas if there's little integration, then the driver will be passing stops, with potential passengers waiting for his/her mate from the same depot (hopefully!) following on a few minutes behind.

I suppose it's like the AD122 example above. Price it too high or not allow any integration with existing products and you're not going to allow it to reach its potential. Especially a new product like this.

I do agree that it could dilute the existing services, but do think with the right marketing, the potential to dilute could be diminished.

Just trying to find out this £25 app deal that's on the back of the Kia Picanto Solo's, and noticed the pricing structure of the open topper in Newcastle.

There's a Toon Tour ticket (valid on Q services between Newcastle and Gateshead) and a Toon Tour Plus which is valid on all GNE services.

The tickets are valid for 24 hours too!

    Pleasantly surprised!

It took away the shock and horror of the £4.60 fare they're wanting on a Kia Picanto Solo!

I might pop up in the pricing thread tomorrow to share my thoughts on both.

That doesn't actually look too ridiculous, still not going to pay it though!

I'll just continue to sit here and hope that they put an open topper on the X21

And since you seem like such a fan of the Kia Picanto, I made an X-lines branded Kia Picanto X-line just for you! (not gonna lie, I actually think it looks quite nice!)

Haha it does actually. With these 2 new streetdecks going to crook, do we think they will unveil the Xlines version of the X21......

Nah, I think we'll just get the generic X-Lines livery, that way they can be used as spares anywhere.

It wouldn't look very good if we only had 2 X-Lines branded Streetdecks with the others still Castles Express, which I hope they don't get rid of because it's honestly the best branded route. It's branded, but it's not over the top like some of the others *cough*56*cough*

    DH9   25 Jun 2019, 11:10 pm

The new timetables are now on Traveline North East.   It seems one X30 or X31 an hour continue to Consett and continues until after 10 pm from Newcastle to Stanley.   Late X30 seem to link in with 78A to continue journey (at least last one does).   I suspect this is more about transporting drivers between Consett and Stanley.

6A reduced to hourly on an evening and last bus is at 23.10, not 23.15.   M6 is now Lanchester to Metrocentre, with seemingly no 30 or 30A.   M8 is retimed but not too different.   Pattern of M6 / M6 / M8 towards Stanley.   M7 is truncated to East Stanley Circular.

X70 now operates two hours later into the evening.

Most 45s / 46s become X45s / X46s except for 45E journeys, now just 45s.   Last bus leaves Newcastle at 23.23, two minutes earlier.

From something I saw a while back, 15 becomes X15 and 15A becomes X5.   I'm not sure of effect on timings.

I'll leave it to others to work out rest.

While I knew it wasn't going to happen, at least this soon, I was still hoping that the X21 would be extended to Tindale further into the evenings.  Especially since the shops down there are open until 8

There is no generic Xline livery. All have different route colouring. Also one of them is making up the PVR on X21. Maybe they will repaint current Castles Express into a blue Xlines livery...

I just meant that it wouldn't have any particular route branding on it, particularly on the spare.

Going on the fact that they've already ripped the castles off 6304, I'd guess they're planning a repaint sooner rather than later, but they're only 3 years old so I would think they'd want to get a bit more life out of the current livery!

Also, going on what X-lines liveries have been released so far, I'd guess that, assuming they'd be ditching the Castles Express branding, it'd look something like this (I know I got a bit wrong last time I posted one of these, but yolo)

The plus ticket ticks a lot of boxes for me mind. The fact you can use it on that service and others and is valid for 24hours, means I'm likely to use the service, even for a short hop across the town instead of the metro.

    It's all bums on seats!

As for the £25 Kia Picanto Solo deal. I've no idea where that is on the app. I've looked in various places and can't see it.

As someone who already pays £110 a month, I think having to pay an extra £6 just to go on the Toon Tour is a bit steep, even if it is a 24 hour ticket.
I do however agree with you that the Plus ticket is quite a good deal, my brother has a dental appointment at the RVI so they're thinking of getting the Toon Tour Plus ticket as it's not really much more than the regular 3 zone ticket and they can make a day of it.

Good to hear you're a fan of the Plus ticket!

The £25 weekly ticket advertised on the backs of the X-lines Solos is the two-zone ticket (either green and red for the X20, or red and turquoise for the X6/X7). This was reduced from £30 to £25 on the app back in January, initially as an 'app sale' but has been extended for a longer duration.

It's one of the few times I can say (as someone who doesn't use the bus every day), that a ticket they're offering, is quite attractive.

It saves on buying 2x 1 day tickets (which I quite often end up having to do).

However, I do understand the position you are in. There's absolutely no incentive for you at all to pay the extra and use the service, when you can board an existing one to complete the journey (X21 and Q3 to Ouseburn for example or X21 and a 1 to The Biscuit Factory as another).

Well it is a tour, with commentary on the sites of Newcastle. You wouldn't expect a tour of any other city not to have a standalone price. I think GNE have done a good job at incorporating the ticketing to be used across other services to maximise the benefit for visitors and locals

I'm glad you brought that up, I was biting my tongue on that one!

That is actually one of the other things that are stopping me from wanting to have a go on the Toon Tour (that's another one, is it even possible to say that without sounding like a proper Geordie?)

How many emissions are the poor children going to be breathing in from those Euro 4 engines?

And where's my Leather and my Tables, wood effect flooring!

What's that! You don't even get free headphones. That's it, I'm out!

Have you got a link for these please, as I can't seem to find them?
