Hindsight might kick in later when they realise Sunderland are at home and it's looking like a decent crowd.

In the past, 78 do get quite full even without a match on, maybe it was a mistake by the allocater for Consett. Maybe it is one which didn't realise that they should be putting on a double decker.

Same with the 39 they are using solo's again.

Or Go North East have the data from previous match days and know that double-decks are not required so have reverted back to the usual allocation. Just a thought…

Yeah, but this match day is a lot different. Jermain Defoe is back, and could be playing.

I would expect a lot of the tickets to have been sold regardless of the prospect of a specific player playing.

How very shortsighted of Go North East. Let’s hope Stagecoach Sunderland has drafted in double decks from Newcastle for their services passing the Stadium of Light today.

I would imagine a lot of concessionary passes to be used considering an OAP might be making his return to the Stadium of Light.

I wonder if Jermain (sic) is related to Percy Main? They're both about the same age.

They’re running a reduced service level on the Es - have they upgraded those to double decks today?

3 services which follow quite a lot of the same route, compared to 78 (which is every 60 mins atm), 56 every 20, 20 every 30, 39/39A every 30mins.

The E1/E2/E6 are vastly different routes - they have common sections in which they provide a good combined frequency but in the main there are a lot of unique sections too, so in the main it is a half-hourly service to most customers.

They go much closer to the Stadium of Light than the 78. To answer my own question, Stagecoach are running a fleet of single-decks on these services today, with no double-decks allocated. I’d imagine these services, running less frequently than normal, are more likely to carry customers heading to the match than the 78.

What were the match day attendances on those previous Saturdays vs the expected attendance today?

Not sure what Stagecoach has to do with this.

Customer: I had to wait for over an hour as I couldn't get on the 20.
GNE: Stagecoach only ran single deckers on the E1/E2/E3.
Customer: Okay...?

Not a vast difference - 32k on 22 January vs 34k today.

If Go North East are making decisions based on previous weeks' data, then clearly an assumption is being made that the 2k difference in expected attendance today is not enough to cause over-loading issues on the 78 today.

We'll find out later - thankfully bustimes enables us to see this!

Not sure that scenario would ever happen - what's the relevance? This thread is an enthusiasts discussion and in this discussion I am drawing a comparison against other operators, who similarly have decreased the frequency of a service, and not upgraded capacity today on a match day. Like Go North East, Stagecoach may have made this decision based on data from previous weeks.
RE: Go North East | Sunday timetables all weekend
The anticipation of whether the 78 will cope with single deckers between approximately 13:00 and 18:00 is potentially far more exciting than the match itself.

Can't wait for the Bus Times vidi-printer to kick in to see the result.

You're suggesting that a multi-million pound operation, are basing their allocation (which could have ramifications going forward), on one previous game?

Bus times website crashing in the hours before and after the match, with us lot trying to find out what the loadings are like!

28k or so last game vs 35k or so (so far) if taking account of the away support who will never use the bus.

Much wider difference than being reported.
RE: Go North East | Sunday timetables all weekend
There is a 78 coming into Sunderland with 2 seats free,

EDIT - Now full

and one arriving in Stanley going towards Sunderland with 17 free.

There is also a X1 which hasn't even got into Washington yet which is full, and one at Hetton which has 34 seats left and running 10 mins late, Its got a better delay than my X1 had the other saturday at 35 mins
RE: Go North East | Sunday timetables all weekend
Rather disappointingly, there's a decker on the 78 at Castleside. Would alert the referee that there's an extra player on the pitch but can't catch their attention.

EDIT: Also notice that no buses are tracking heading towards Sunderland now. Could there be a conspiracy afoot?

Btw the bus isn't necessarily full because it says it is on bustimes. That's only the seating capacity.

Don't let inconvenient facts interrupt the narrative, man.

Plus, given elsewhere in the forum where he opined that he didn't like people sitting next to him, a bus probably only has to be at about 65% capacity for him to consider it to be 'full'.

Passengers who struggle to get a bus on a Saturday, use the car and end up delaying the bus?

What we need, is some buses that are congestion busting.

im still scratching my head as to where all the customers who used to reply to these GNE tweets have gone? I remember seeing loads of replies to broken down or running late buses but now nothing.... is it because it used to be the exception to the rule and now it is the rule?

That is mainly on FB.

And on another note the 78 broke down earlier. so if you just missed one you have a round a 2 hour wait.

Looking at fb (where the majority of the interaction is), they don't seem to post the specific delays and disruptions on there.

But yeah, I remember loads of comments and responses on twitter to posts like those.

Why don't they post delays on FB seems a bit counter productive seems as though they want customer satasfaction.

The amount of delays is disappointing to say the least.

3939A Solo's were quickly replaced

A few 20's are full or nearly full aswell

glad its not just me then.... i remember a tweet would say 21 stuck  at chester le street due to glue on road and when you got down to the 39th comment they were moaning that the bus driver on the 69 couldn't change a £50  note on the first service of the day!
