(21 Mar 2022, 9:29 pm)Unber43 That needs to come back to Deptford, there has been too many single deckers on the 56.

(21 Mar 2022, 10:11 pm)Dan 6942 was allocated to Deptford for scholars, not for the 56 - so this being reinstated would make no difference to allocations on the 56.Well there were two single deckers on today, granted one was replaced with 3943, but one of those operated the 5025.
3943 has been long-term VOR, meaning one of Deptford’s two spare Volvo B9s has been deputising on the scholars every day, but has just recently returned to service so this should no longer be the case.

atleast 6942 would bring a higher capacity. The only think B9's have on 6942 is high backed seats pretty sure people would rahter be on that than crammed on a single decker

(21 Mar 2022, 11:10 pm)stagecoachbusdepot Or 6942 could do the scholars and release a B9 onto the 56 - either way would improve capacity on 56

(22 Mar 2022, 6:30 am)Dan Bus companies cannot keep buses forever - if the bus has been replaced in the fleet, it needs to go. Depots don’t have the budget to maintain an abundance of surplus spare vehicles.Yeah, but 6942 is a Euro 5, a lot of the buses which are older and are still using including 3943 are Euro 4.
The school contract that 6942 was allocated to was converted to a coach. The school contract 3943 is allocated to requires a bus with a minimum of 70 seats, so 6942 couldn’t be allocated to this anyway.
Two spare vehicles (6086 and 6087) for a combined PVR of 12 (11x service 56 and 1x scholars) is fairly generous actually and I cannot see further vehicles being allocated in the near future.

(22 Mar 2022, 8:54 am)Dan In this context that's not really relevant.Fair Enough.
6942 is a dual-door bus which, by and large, is unsuitable for normal service work. It was never supposed to be allocated to the 56, and the fact that it regularly was is why it was quickly replaced. The school service it was allocated to is now allocated a coach, and the coach can be used on private hire and rail replacement work on a weekend.

I read the forum regularly and with great interest to the various developments. But may I ask why, of all the large multi operations does Go Ahead and Arriva not have national numbering schemes? It must be a pain administration wise to keep up with the various documentation without the added practicality of physically changing vehicle numbers.
Many thanks in advance for any answers.

(27 Mar 2022, 8:46 pm)N1cholas Seems to be a lot of vehicles being let go, wonder if they will be replaced (when needed) with newer second hand vehicles from else where in the groupOr further reductions and consolidation? Not sure what else they can transfer 'internally' from EY, in addition to the electric bus bid, which obviously wasn't a success.

(27 Mar 2022, 10:33 pm)Andreos1 Or further reductions and consolidation? Not sure what else they can transfer 'internally' from EY, in addition to the electric bus bid, which obviously wasn't a success. It used to be north of 700, probs down to low 600 now.
The fleet has been gradually reducing in size for years now. Post pandemic, I can't see that stopping.

Looks like 625-634 and 639 have now been withdrawn. I suspect 639 will be transferring to Go North West to join 637 and 638. As for the others, I can see them transferring to Go South Coast to replace older Solos (the oldest of which are nearly twice their age at 52 reg!)
As for 8305/6, both of those aren't withdrawn and are still tracking on Bustimes today. On the other hand, 8300/1 haven't been tracked since the 25th and 19th respectively, so it's possible that they've been withdrawn instead.
