The Major Allocation Changes: July 24th Service Changes
(31 Jul 2022, 9:35 pm)Storx Fair point, weirder things have happened up here though. The 58 plate Centro's at Durham to pick one out (admit different company though).3941-43 aren't Euro 6
To me it sounds like the 10 plate Merc's might not have long left either. Doubt they'll be on the 57 it's been allocated deckers since the changes.
8294 - 8302/6 (Euro 4) - Withdrawn
8307 - 8309 (Euro 6) - Withdrawn / Spares
8310 - 8318 (Euro 5) - 35 + 1 Spare
8339 - 8342 (Euro 5) - 34
6331 - 6333 - Washington Spares
6356 - 6363 (Euro 6) - 1 to Washington / 58
6377 - X10 Spare
6149 - 6154 - 57
3941 - 3943 - 6
5453 - 5458 - 6/12 (Not sure on the PVR for this)
5459 - 5462 / 5508 / 5509 / 5510 / 5498 - 67/69/Spares
5463 - 5469 - 49/49A
Quaylink Versa's - X20/61 + 1 Spare
5501 - 5504 - X66 / Spares
All 08/58/10 Merc's Withdrawn
Don't really expect that though but it just shows that it's doable removing them all out of service if they really wanted.

(31 Jul 2022, 8:33 pm)Dan For old time’s sake (as it could help jog my memory to answer this question!), what noise does a Swedish/French engine make, and what noise does a German engine make?Hahahha!

It wasn't too long ago that people on here were saying the StreetDecks were far too underpowered to go on a route like the X21 (which I'd agree with, well they don't have the right gearing at least), and the B5s were far better suited to the route.
Now, all of a sudden the B5s are awful, unreliable vehicles that should never have been put on the X21, and the StreetDecks are perfect for it.
(31 Jul 2022, 10:00 pm)Unber43 Why would you upgrade 17 year old Euro 4 buses, when you are withdrawing several Euro 6 Versa's

(31 Jul 2022, 3:31 pm)V514DFT The Versas are more durable than you think, they managed the 58 fine since their arrival in 2013,it'll just be old age as to why they brokedown, and the heat wouldnt of helped, you have to remember the route the 58 used to do,hills, and the Coast Road,if you did that for 3 (maybe 4) years, then later just Heworth-Newcastle would you not breakdown?

Why would GNE continue to run the X21 still one short of the PVR having to use 6334/35 when they have 8x nearly new StreetDecks available with a good interior spec?
Washington only needs 6333 (with 6331 & 32 already there as spares) and 6377 to sort the X1 out.
In hindsight as well as other spares, 6334 & 35 would make up for Riverside losing 6336 & 37. Plus the extra length of 6308-14 and 9x extra seats over the StreetDeck will come in handy for the 58.

(31 Jul 2022, 10:49 pm)streetdeckfan Because, the B5s are arguably more suited to the route than the StreetDecks. While I don't think I've tried the latest batch on the motorway, I can't imagine them being that much better given they haven't changed anything with the drivetrain. I believe the only difference is the suspension? (which is far superior to the B5s). Even the 6 cylinder is very underwhelming on the motorway IMO.If there was another B5 GNE could get their hands on that would be great and would sort the PVR out.
My biggest complaint with the StreetDecks when they were on the X21 was the noise, they seemed to spend most of their time on the redline as they're just not geared to go 50mph for any significant length of time. Which, given that nearly half of the X21 route is either Motorway, Dual Carriageway, or fast A roads, where they're typically going flat out, isn't ideal!

(31 Jul 2022, 10:52 pm)Unber43 Well 6332 is in need of a re-paint

(31 Jul 2022, 10:54 pm)streetdeckfan They should paint it back into the Hop Tap Go livery and it'll be like the good old days before they started F'ing it all up!Really 6331-6333 could just allocated to X21 + 2 Spares.
Seriously, that shade of blue was lovely!

(31 Jul 2022, 10:51 pm)streetdeckfan Just whack one of the 67 plate StreetDecks on, nobody will even be able to tell it's not a B5!
Or, really what they should have done is make the 'spares' the same spec as the rest of the B5s, paint one blue, and Bob's your aunty, it's not a spare anymore!

(31 Jul 2022, 10:56 pm)Unber43 Really 6331-6333 could just allocated to X21 + 2 Spares.
6334-6335 could be sent to Consett, as I believe they are low height
(31 Jul 2022, 10:57 pm)Storx Could just cut the frequency South of Durham aswell, then you'd have one spare (and an hourly service). Works in other places.
(I'm joking btw).
