(24 Nov 2020, 5:41 pm)Storx Wouldn't be surprised if it's just a peak time service through to Brandon like the old X46 they used to run through there until quite recently. Can't see them being stupid enough to run a regular service through there.I can't think of a reason for doing it even for operational convenience, though? There's no depot or anything there, and no other service to interwork with. The only reason the x46 ran was to just to avoid running empty between Durham and the Crook depot after doing an x21.

(24 Nov 2020, 6:05 pm)Storx Not too sure to be honest with you. It does seem a bit of a strange one though tbf. Maybe there's some demand for a bus through to Arnison / the College / Newcastle. I know the X46 years ago used to go through to Newcastle.Yeah and if memory serves, the x46 used to go to the Arnison Centre.

(24 Nov 2020, 8:08 pm)Storx Yeah noticed that plus the 21 is upto every 7 minutes still so hopefully that might shut up the suggestions finally that it's getting cut to every 10 minutes so the Streetdecks can go on the X45/6/7 which gets suggested every other week.Well, it appears that's not the case anymore and the StreetDecks will remain where they are.

(24 Nov 2020, 5:35 pm)big mac Don't see the logic in that at all given Arriva have got a monopoly in that area with the 49/49a.

(24 Nov 2020, 9:25 pm)L469 YVK Well, it appears that's not the case anymore and the StreetDecks will remain where they are.Or.......to give flexibility for the bike guarantee (X30/X70/X71 only) - this would depend on "funding" rules but would afford spares. Fab 56 would remain every 15 mins, Cobalt & Coast same but PVR back to 16x from 15x (TBC).
But, not taking into account spares, the following could be achieved with what Consett have depending on future changes (not exactly January):
X45/X46/X47
- 8x new StreetDecks
- 3x 67 reg StreetDecks
- 3x 2019 ADL E400MMC
X30/X70/X71
- 8x new ADL E400MMC (X30 no longer extended to Consett)
X31 (incl X32)
- 3x new ADL E400MMC - not extended to Consett in lieu of X30 and driver changes at Stanley***
*** With the 78 swapped to Hownsgill, could the X31 not go the other way to Chester Le Street? Driving distance from Stanley to Chester Le Street is only 6.1 miles via shortest route. Driving distance from Stanley to Hownsgill is 8.2 miles via shortest route. Driving hours would be either 2x trips on peak (3 hours) or 3x off peak (4.5 hours). Time in the van would be approx 15 mins each way.
Plus, if the full Sunday X21 still operates going forward, then the 3x E400MMCs could then be utilised on the Sunday X21 thus qualifying for BSOG (B5TL doesn't qualify) whilst also reducing fuel costs.

Btw just thought wonder if this might involve the 13 somehow. Noticed that the times for that are changing but the 25 aren't. There's not much you can do with that without touching the 25 aswell. Possibly could be getting bolted on the 21 instead, with the other hourly bus being this new Brandon extension? Could imagine the timings are roughly the same roughly to do both.
Wonder what changes we'll see to the X21. I'm hoping more later journeys to West Auckland and maybe a Sunday service there as well but it'll never happen

(25 Nov 2020, 10:14 am)Andreos1 Thinking out loud, I wonder if they could jiggle it so that the 13 is replaced in whole by the 21 and then extended to Brandon via the back lanes via Esh Winning and Ushaw Moor.B5TL's don't qualify for BSOG sadly. Only the StreetDecks do.
The 725 used to continue to Esh Winning back in the day and off memory, the rest of the route towards Brandon is do-able.
But all that enhanced BSOG should make it viable enough to run on an evening, like what happens on the 60. Apparently.

(24 Nov 2020, 9:41 pm)Andreos1 Yeah, I struggle with it. I can't see ANE letting GNE muscle in without much of a fight.

(25 Nov 2020, 12:01 pm)MurdnunoC I don't think ANE has the resources to put up much of a fight at the moment. While it is possible to dredge up old knackered buses from other parts of the country, reliability is going to be a major issue and, of course, you still need to find the drivers to drive them (and the engineers to fix them).

The main thing j can think of as a reason for the 13 not being merged with the 21 is the fact for a small section both of those routes go the same way. Meaning the 21 would have to go past the University hospital, down North Road into Durham then back out the same way to go up to Sacriston. Would they want to have a continuous route that goes back on itself?
