It is coming upto the hundred year anniversary of the war starting and there are events up and down the country remembering, informing and sharing stories of it.

Just found this story, which I find quite amazing.

There's some interesting stories emerging about the roles local people, towns and villages played in the first world war.

This story may not be that well known beyond Birtley, but always interesting seeing and hearing about it.
