RE: Arriva North East - Acky81 - 02 Jul 2013

Seems a real shame Michael I remember all these running through grangetown years ago when united ran them prior to arriva takeover. I remember a 212 to deaf hill and still don't know where is it. Great connections the services you mentioned but the buses used were so old and dirty. I don't know why arriva buy so many cast offs however lately more up to date vehicles are been used on north Tyneside and Sunderland connections from Durham/Teesside

It will have been a service that served the pit villages and colliery there. Once the pits went, so did the bus

Although they no longer have a direct link to Sunderland, they still have a half hourly service to Peterlee thanks to the 21/21a.

the only Arriva buses that serve Sunderland to Peterlee corridor now is Service 23 every 30 minutes to Hartlepool and Service 24 every 30 Minutes to Durham via Peterlee.

Service 212,213,215 was replaced in 2008 by Arriva renumbering sequence 21/21A/23/24/25/26/27. Service 212 was replaced by service 26 27 Deaf Hill to Peterlee. Deaf Hill is next to Wingate area.

Missed the 214, 229/230 and 240/241/242 off there (213/214 became 21/21a, 229/230 became the 23, 240/241/242 became the 24). The 25 was a brand new route, and the 26/27 were indeed the replacement for the 212.

RE: Arriva North East - Acky81 - 05 Jul 2013

Shame about x19 was handy from Newcastle to Doxford international. So 306 and 308 cancelled then back again what's the changes there

RE: Arriva North East - Wellsey18 - 06 Jul 2013

So do this mean they are cutting off the link up to Killingworth and the garths now then?? Or will one of the other x's be extended, should of just been left as the 56 everything got messed up after they changed it to x6 passenger numbers rapidly decreased

RE: Arriva North East - Dan - 07 Jul 2013

4664 has been transferred from Belmont to Jesmond, and saw use on service 306 yesterday - see photo here.

RE: Arriva North East - tyresmoke - 07 Jul 2013

Been there about 2 weeks Dan. 4662 should transfer up today from Stockton as long as Redcar have 4658 ready.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I don't think we made a note of it previously though - but we did make a note of the other two. :p

RE: Arriva North East - Malarkey - 10 Jul 2013

The passengers of Arriva's 685 Service had a taste of luxury today instead of usually tacky rotten old coaches they are used two, that unless they used Stageoach, in which they had the usual.

As for Arriva they had

Photo 1: http://www.flickr.com/photos/adammalarkey/9256961550/
Photo 2: http://www.flickr.com/photos/adammalarkey/9254177699/

And

I certainly as a passenger would used Arriva Today, think it's time for Stagecoach to get new buses on there 685.

The allocation of a leather-seated Omnicity should be a lot more common from next week. 4660 is the only example to have been tachoed, and 4661/2/4 are also in the process of receiving tachos too.

As for Stagecoach, I'm sure there are plans in place to axe the coaches from the service. Not sure on a timescale for that, but as it's gone ahead with Arriva (as has been planned for a while now), I'm positive Stagecoach will follow suit!

4662 being the least advanced - as it was still in service at Stockton yesterday on the X1/X2.

RE: Arriva North East - Dan - 13 Jul 2013

Gemini 7618 made it onto the 24 today - doesn't happen too often if I am correct?

RE: Arriva North East - tyresmoke - 13 Jul 2013

They had all Pulsars on the X1 today, not sure why.

Stockton had their fair share of unusual workings, including Dart 1772 on 21A (2 in 2 days, 1771 spent the day on there yesterday too!), Dart 1755 on 28/30, 1753 on X6 and Prestige 4039 appeared on service 15 this afternoon as a changeover.

RE: Arriva North East - Andreos1 - 13 Jul 2013

Pulsars on the Middlesbrough - Durham X1?
Is that the Durham and Stockton allocation or both?

On a seperate note, very attractive ticketing offers for residents in the Bishop Auckland area, particularly if travelling North beyond Durham www.arrivabus.co.uk/fares-west-durham/.

Durham only today, although Stockton's workings are due to become Pulsar worked from the end of the month.

They need to push that fare on X2. Fantastic value. DD always seem light loadings off peak. Perhaps SD ops make more sense

RE: Arriva North East - tyresmoke - 13 Jul 2013

Thing is DDs do get full at times! Memories of following a Durham X1 through Stockton and taking a Prestige full because the Gemini in front of me was full... god knows what happened that day!
The Durham Uni students provide a heavy passenger loading on X1... It's generally the X2 that is the lesser of the two (by a long way I'm told!) but it justifies running it.

RE: Arriva North East - Andreos1 - 13 Jul 2013

They need to push it and increase frequency North of Durham - marketing both to students at Colleges and Uni's as well as commuters etc.
Wonder how many students in say Spennymoor heading to New College know about this and will switch from the GNE offer?

Arriva will never be able to compete with the 21 for frequency. But I'm not sure having an hourly X2 (no matter how cheap it is) will attract passengers.

Is it a coincidence this ticket is launched as GNE announce a partial pull out of the area?
It has obviously been planned a while, to get costings drawn up, boundaries changed.
Has someone in GNE towers got wind of it and raised the white flag?

RE: Arriva North East - tyresmoke - 14 Jul 2013

The X2 is half hourly. They need to push the fact the Durham district ticket is valid to Newcastle and Metrocentre! I didn't know until I was told recently, so how are our normal passengers meant to know?

RE: Arriva North East - nk55 - 14 Jul 2013

If i had the option of getting to my destination quicker on a V reg bus & paying a little more or a 61 reg bus paying less, i'm on the gne bus every time. Also would i get the 6 from bishop & then changing buses in durham to the X2 when i can catch a bus straight through.....No brainer.

RE: Arriva North East - Andreos1 - 14 Jul 2013

Ah, didn't realise the X2 was half hourly.

The quote from NK55 is really ramming home what I am trying to say though. Without some sort of increase in frequency or an alternative that will compete with GNE, I'm not sure having a cheap ticket will always win.

The two combined will win.

RE: Arriva North East - MurdnunoC - 14 Jul 2013

Just a little price comparison table I've knocked up.

I understand the point that is being made about the inconvenience of changing onto a less frequent bus at Durham. However, if connections were good and the bus was reliable (in the sense it wasn't held up), then I might be convinced to switch if I was travelling this route everyday and currently buying a 28-Day Buzzfare from GNE. There are some good savings to be made by doing so.

EDIT: Re-sized table.
