Redcar depot - Bob5666 - 25 May 2023

Someone on here thinks it's OK to spread romers about redcar depo closing I can tell u that its definitely not closing down   so for future please don't be putting fake gen up if u don't know what you are talking about
Thanks

RE: Redcar depot - tvd - 26 May 2023

Haven't heard that rumour, but common sense should suggest they aren't likely to close Redcar depot.
It's a relatively new depot, handy for most of their services and a newish town office by the clock. It's only the distance between the Redcar depot and Whitby which is not ideal, but that wouldn't be helped by a depot closure!

RE: Redcar depot - RobinHood - 26 May 2023

How long can Redcar last though? Isn't the PVR something like 35 when you remove Whitby? Surely, that is not high enough to cover the depot overheads.
I wouldnt be surprised if it eventually merged with Stockton, probably somewhere in the Middlesbrough area, as that was rumoured a few years ago.

Redcar’s current PVR is 40 in summer, 37 in winter. Soon be less of course with 3 being removed in July.

Whitby by comparison is 13 summer, 10 winter

Did they actually have much of a PVR reduction since pre Covid?

As far as I'm aware things are largely the same however about 3/4 Pulsars headed North to Ashington which were never replaced. Relying on 18 year old B7's is never a good idea either for one of the hardest routes in the North East.

The Solo's are just shot to bits, Ashington have 6 to operate a PVR of 4 again, assume 2830 has gone up to help release one of the Decker's, no doubt a full size bus will still be on again in a few days time. They all badly need to go.

The 2 deckers aren’t additional as Pulsars 1433/39 have gone the other way. Additional capacity wise but no extra vehicles.

I would expect further loans to turn up though, things are in a bad way should we say at Redcar and Whitby

I had a ride on 2866 on the 81 from Redcar to Guisborough this afternoon and my god it was gutless, really struggled with the hills on that route, probs why it almost half an hour late!

Even with 7575/76 today, they still struggled with single decks including 4704, 1435 & 1572 appearing on the X93, with 1564 later finding its way onto the X94 (amongst all sorts of swapping of buses around).

Not surprised one bit, the ones up here aren't much better. I really don't know who thought it was a good idea to put buses that were struggling on town work / in Durham on suburban work or with the case with Whitby and Redcar rural work.

Not sure what will get rid of them though mind unless they upgrade routes to full size buses in particular in Durham and Ashington. No doubt they'll just bury they heads in sand though and pretend nothing is wrong.

Yep and that was with 2 63s, a 62 and at least one X4 missing, which given the reduced Saturday output tells you how bad things are at Redcar…

1435 was on the P2b board which is spare after about half 10 and inevitably gets used most days. 4704 ended up being dragged back home, presumably X93s was a step too far for it Smile

RE: Redcar depot - tvd - 30 May 2023

Does seem bad management to end up so short of buses at Redcar, when only last year Darlington got a load of new minibuses to release most of their Solos.
Surely a few of those displaced Solos, the half decent ones, could've been kept for spares?

Maybe I'm missing something and its not quite so simple, but having lots of services not run and drivers with no buses is a pretty bad situation.

RE: Redcar depot - Unber43 - 30 May 2023

I think they would struggle/ too small for Redcar

Solos would be perfect for the 81 now - certainly capacity wise. Plus it doesn't stop them using them on 63s, or 62s or X4s or even X93s.........

The 07 Plate Omnicity's would've been better than Solo's. The Solo's are shot and need send to the scrap yard asap.

Not dissimilar to how Ashington was performing prior to the arrival of the 72 plates.

The 2 damaged B9s look to be badly missed, imagine there's been delays in getting them fixed? From what I've heard 7555 was due back from fire damage at least a couple of months ago, and still isn't back so it's possibly similar here.

Even an extra 2-3 vehicles seem like they'd go a long way to fix the issues. That said, it seems mental that they've just got 2 shiny MMCs that have been bulletproof for Ashington and are using one of them daily on the P1. Before the "but the X93 is hilly" comments come in, I was on 7575 the other week and it overtook a Solo comfortably up Whorral Bank out of Morpeth.

The whole situation screams of poor local management.

Absolutely the opposite to be honest. It's good management when you understand why they are doing this.

The MMCs are a new vehicle type to Redcar and as a result, they will not put them into the X93 until all drivers who need to be, have been vehicle familiarised. Which, is a key part of risk management and may not be immediately apparent.
