RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - V514DFT - 18 Feb 2025 (18 Feb 2025, 8:11 pm)XQ Zero wrote The first new unit to operate to Sunderland and South Hylton in passenger service was introduced today, 18 February 2025. Exactly 2 months after it entered service on the Yellow Line RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - DaveFromUpNorth - 18 Feb 2025 can the new trains use Sunderland Station or is there a step issue? RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Aaron21 - 18 Feb 2025 (18 Feb 2025, 9:28 pm)DaveFromUpNorth wrote can the new trains use Sunderland Station or is there a step issue? It tells u to mind the step when exit the train Also they had to move it to platform 1. This is due to i believe where the metro at Sunderland on platform 2 is on a curve so it would be kinda dangerous for passengers RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - DaveFromUpNorth - 19 Feb 2025 (18 Feb 2025, 9:39 pm)Aaron21 wrote It tells u to mind the step when exit the train So not a step free access them shame for a wheelchair RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Storx - 19 Feb 2025 (19 Feb 2025, 5:04 pm)DaveFromUpNorth wrote So not a step free access them shame for a wheelchair I can't comment on all the platforms or what the issue is but Sunderland's platforms are straight from what I can remember being down there especially 1, 3 and 4. I've never waited near 2 so can't comment on that one. It's the Stadium of Light which has the curved platform. Platform 2 you had to step up from the door to platform lots of people didn't notice that while usually because they were looking at the phone and end up tripping over. Could see how it could be an issue. Son is badgering me for a ride of one. I can track the running board number on pop app. Many thanks RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - XQ Zero - 28 Feb 2025 (28 Feb 2025, 12:28 am)Youngymmv wrote Morning all, could anyone tell me what journeys the new metros will be on today (Friday) on the green line. Son is badgering me for a ride of one. I can track the running board number on pop app. There are 2 diagrams at the moment and they operate M-F only. The Railforums website shows the diagrams as follows, T102 Monday - Friday: 0530 Regent Centre - South Hylton 0626 South Hylton - Airport 0738 Airport - South Hylton 0850 South Hylton - Airport 1002 Airport - South Hylton 1114 South Hylton - Airport 1226 Airport - South Hylton 1338 South Hylton - Airport 1450 Airport - South Hylton 1602 South Hylton - Airport 1714 Airport - South Hylton 1829 South Hylton - South Gosforth T121 Monday - Friday: 0458 Regent Centre - South Shields 0544 South Shields - St James 0722 St James - South Shields 0856 South Shields - St James 1034 St James - South Shields 1208 South Shields - St James 1346 St James - South Shields 1520 South Shields - St James 1658 St James - South Shields 1835 South Shields - South Gosforth RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - V514DFT - 28 Feb 2025 555020 has an issue which sees it drop back to being tested out of passenger service RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Andreos1 - 28 Feb 2025 It appears Metro are investigating toto. No doubt not integrated in to any of the bus operators systems and funded by the taxpayer. RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - V514DFT - 03 Mar 2025 4031 and 4082 have both started to be stripped for spares 4010 has also been shunted by one of the battery locos RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - nova347 - 06 Mar 2025 (03 Mar 2025, 7:57 pm)V514DFT wrote 4031 and 4082 have both started to be stripped for spares Which ones are the battery locos? They're different vehicles altogether, these things: https://www.flickr.com/photos/emdjt42/8360887639 There's 3 of them, fleet numbers are BL1-3 but believe one of them is knackered aswell and the others aren't supposedly in great shape either from what I've heard. Surely the new trains are heavier so if they break down it will strain the vehicles more. Do the new vehicles have a battery/diesel generator for emergencies? RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Storx - 07 Mar 2025 (07 Mar 2025, 12:22 am)nova347 wrote Wonder how long the battery lasts. Surely the new trains are heavier so if they break down it will strain the vehicles more. Not too sure on the battery length to be honest, I know they can work off a pantograph aswell though. Seems to be an extra 18T weight wise though 98T vs 80T (for a doubled Metro train) though. Not sure they're used much for hauling trains nowadays though and are more for engineering stuff like moving track around and stuff like that where you'd need the battery since the wires are offline. Never seen them in reality though tbh and they're pretty much non existent online for pics and videos and that aswell really. The new trains do have a battery though.
