Would need more than 2 extra to make it every 10 minutes on existing route. Can see at least 4 being required, as the 88 route from Jarrow to South Shields takes twice the time of the current 27.

What about Versas for the 35? ;-)

They've spent a huge amount of money on Hanover LED displays and Next Stop Announcements. Very big contract. Their media is all being programmed by Hanover directly rather than Lothian employing someone to do it, I understand. Lothian are also pulling the strings with development work too - which obviously other operators will benefit from, but it mightn't be catered to other operators' needs.

Yes, tables on these too.

I'm surprised, i thought they would of wanted all the seats they could get on them.

The current Hybrid allocation allows 66 seated + 28 standing.

Even with the tables, StreetDecks allow 68 seated + 31 standing. The tables utilise existing leg-room and the seats are just rotated so that they face each other, so you only lose one row of seats either side (so 4 seats in total).

The downstairs seating configuration on the Hybrids is a bit strange too which results in a few less seats downstairs. The StreetDecks will have a standard seating layout, meaning that there will be 4 extra seats downstairs for passengers who are less able and can't get upstairs easily. Obviously compensated by two less seats upstairs compared to the Hybrids.

Either way it's a marginal upgrade in terms of capacity (16 extra seats per hour, Newcastle - Chester-le-Street).

Ah right, thanks, is the tables going to be branded like the ones on the X9/X10?

Would of been nice to have same capacity as X10 B5s  but still a big upgrade to the the B5H

Would have LOVED to see dual doors but didn't think it'd happen.

My views from using TfL buses are that the lower decks always seem more spacious, more standing room and obviously dwell time at stops is reduced through boarding and alighting happening at the same time. When I come back home it just feels like our single door buses are slow and old-hat - I don't get the impression of a modern 'rapid transit' solution.
Through audio/visual tech GNE could quite easily have the NSAs recorded as something on the lines of 'Next Stop, Newcastle Eldon Sq where this bus terminates, please exit via the front doors at this stop' - to solve the termination point issues.
As for access/heightened kerbs - disabled people could have always exited via the front like wheelchair users if the bus's kneeling feature wasn't enough for them. However most non-wheelchair users manage to exit via the centre doors in London though, where kerbs are not heightened.

I'm sure when the Citylink58 bendies were running, (good times Heart), some bus stops had alterations made to allow either for the length of them, or their 3 sets of doors - correct me if I'm wrong? Not sure if it was GNE and/or local authorities who paid for the work. But council's probably have no funds for that sort of thing anymore. (Although I bet if GNE stopped repainting everything every 5 minutes they could easily pay for changes lol Wink ).

Maybe it would be different if there were proper conversations/longer term plans between the likes of GNE and councils to say, "look, all future bus orders will have double doors as we want public transport to be inviting, quick and easy to use - what can we do to accommodate them kerbside"?

Does anyone know anything about Go Brighton & Hove's recent introduction of dual door buses - what was the thinking behind it / did railings or kerbs have to be altered etc?

Interesting name change, Is this in order to make the brand "fit all" ie an upcoming Rugby Union match in March and also the Rugby League magic weekend in May? I must say the black and White is not only appropriate but eye catching too.

It must be the Eagles. It can't be for the football or rugby teams. There's the image of a trophy! A total misrepresentation Wink

Would think it more for marketing purposes. 'Matchday Park & Ride' is pretty obvious what the service is providing, unlike Soccer Bus.

Go North East standard is wheelchair bay and separate buggy bay, which these have plus they have a "tile" in the floor indicating which each bay is for.
