This service will retain it's current frequency, therefore meaning the same amount of buses per hour to Lukes Lane regardless. 8: This service will operate hourly on Sunday's on a trial basis between Sunderland and Washington. RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - GNE6312 - 21 Jul 2019 New Tyne tunnel bus service suggestion to rival the GCT 319 This service will only stop at: RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - peter - 21 Jul 2019 (21 Jul 2019, 11:01 am)GNE6312 wrote Go North East are not going to 'rival' the 319...if they thought it was that much of an asset they would have taken it on commercially (still as part of the 5 presumably) when the contract was awarded to GCT RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - GNE6312 - 21 Jul 2019 (21 Jul 2019, 12:57 pm)peter wrote It will also bring back a direct service between Sunderland and north shields which should never have been lost RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - peter - 21 Jul 2019 (21 Jul 2019, 12:59 pm)GNE6312 wrote If it was such a crucial/important/well-used direct link then surely it would still exist today...the fact that it doesn't tells you maybe it's not going to be GNE's top priority to reinstate it RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - JM03 - 22 Jul 2019 (21 Jul 2019, 1:07 pm)peter wrote Wasn't it not Nexus who told GNE they needed to introduce a direct link from Hebburn to Sunderland so they decided to change the 9 instead of making a new route? From a passenger point of view and a frequent user of the route, interest was lost when they sent the 9 to LLE and people went to the second best option which was ferry and 20. Was bound to happen when thy took away the direct link, would be welcomed back at Shields, most people just use the ferry nd 20 now as its more frequent which means less waiting time at SS than Jarrow RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - Ex-conductor - 22 Jul 2019 (22 Jul 2019, 12:33 am)JM03 wrote A bus service from North Shields to Sunderland existed since just after the opening of the Tyne Tunnel in November 1967 until recently, when service 9 was diverted to Hebburn. There was one exception to this, when for a short period a service 319 operated between Jarrow and Percy Main Metro. When service 9 was diverted, GNE's excuse was that this was because of demand from Hebburn, despite Hebburn having a link to Sunderland via Pelaw on the Metro (the Metro link between North Shields and Sunderland can only be done through Newcastle, a ridiculously long journey for 2 locations which are only about 8 miles apart). So from having no direct bus at all to Sunderland, Hebburn suddenly got one, with a frequency of 3 times per hour on weekdays. I ask why GNE could not have given both towns a link to Sunderland. The short journeys between Sunderland and Jarrow could have been extended to Hebburn, with the hourly frequency maintained to Shields. In the evening there are 2 buses per hour, so one could have gone to each of the towns. I think it was only for GNE's convenience that the ridiculous decision was taken to extend service 5 into Shields. Going back to the original service between North Shields and Sunderland, that service started in Blyth and took in Whitley Bay and Tynemouth. In my opinion it was also for GNE's convenience that the direct link from North Shields and Blyth were discontinued. RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - V514DFT - 22 Jul 2019 The service you are describing from Blyth to Sunderland was the original 310 (not the 310 that operates now) with the original 319 operating Sunderland-Cramlington that was axed in 2007 so i imagine the 310 went along with it,but there was a 319 that operated Jarrow-Percy Main in 2010 but was axed,if i remember right there was a 9 and 9A,one went to Wallsend and the other went to North Shields and both operated to Sunderland, but dont know how long that lasted but i also remember a 59 operating Wallsend-Jarrow in 2010 then Wallsend lost its link through the tunnel completely RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - LVK 404L - 22 Jul 2019 (22 Jul 2019, 6:28 pm)V514DFT wrote The service you are describing from Blyth to Sunderland was the original 310 (not the 310 that operates now) with the original 319 operating Sunderland-Cramlington that was axed in 2007 so i imagine the 310 went along with it,but there was a 319 that operated Jarrow-Percy Main in 2010 but was axed,if i remember right there was a 9 and 9A,one went to Wallsend and the other went to North Shields and both operated to Sunderland, but dont know how long that lasted but i also remember a 59 operating Wallsend-Jarrow in 2010 then Wallsend lost its link through the tunnel completely Probably best for the Bygone Era. But the original 310 Blyth to Sunderland actually went a different route between Jarrow and Sunderland. It went via Brockley Whins. Biddick Hall, Boldon and North Sunderland Estates. Being replaced by 538 and 310 was altered to same route as 319. The original 319 did not actually do Cramlington to Sunderland but did in fact do Cramlington to Lukes Lane Estate. So Hebburn Lukes Lane albeit years later always seem to the "Thorn in the Side" that takes routes that were doing well elsewhere. Also when the 59 operated Wallsend to Sunderland, the Shields route was numbered 59A. It would be so much easier for the majority of services coming from that direction to terminate at Gateshead interchange and then using the Metro to get into Newcastle. I tried it the other day, bar the cost, its so much more efficient and would make a alot of difference to time keeping and congestion. Keeps buses on time, more reliable services, quicker access - get the lifts sorted ... and its all good! Like anything, I'm sure there are negatives, but the sitation at the moment of 5 Double decker buses crossing the tyne bridge half full every few minutes is just madness RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - Rob44 - 29 Jul 2019 I can see the over 60's and concessionary pass holders not been too happy either! Its a long walk from gateshead to newcastle and £1.80 alot to pay for 2 or 3 stops on the MEtro!
