I did do one on the Tyne Valley a while back, but not sure if the timings would work now. All pretty good value for around £7 (would be £6.20 now).
Bus to Newcastle
Newcastle - Wylam - X84 (now 684) - Had a pint or two in the Boathouse
Wylam - Ovingham - X84- Had a pint in the White Swan
Ovingham - Hexham - X84 - Had a pint in a pub in Hexham, can't remember the name
Hexham - Humshaugh - 680 - Had a pint and food in the Crown (couldn't recommend this one enough)
Humshaugh-Hexham - 680
Hexham - Matfen - 74 - Black Bull
Matfen to Newcastle - 74
All with great views along the way, I only think the Matfen part would be possible on a Saturday with the 74 running later.

Unless you live Arriva territory, it could be done on a GNE All Zones ticket.

Considering it will be going around roads where double deckers aren't normal, it would be outright dangerous for them to randomly allocate an open top to the service due to said trees over hanging.
