Which is fine for Sunderland Rd a but a huge part of Old Durham Rd will be without a service, unless you fancy a lot of walking and a lot of hills

It's not that far to Split Crow Road or Shipcote Terrace / Dryden Road / Durham Road though and unless you live on Old Durham Road you have to walk the hill in one direction anyway (it's just the opposite way).
Mind that said I don't get why there's nothing going along Shipcote Terrace and serving Old Durham Road, even if it was just the 57 - don't believe there's no reason why they can't? The 57 sits around for 25 minutes every board doing nothing in Newcastle anyway - might aswell put it to some use.

Five Bridges reopens this Thursday morning, a far more disruptive closure with Park Lane starts on the evening of Saturday 25th July running through until August 22nd (the day before Newcastle's first home league game of the season)
Would expect diversion updates tail end of this week from GNE

Not on GNE website yet but disruption from this Saturday night due to flyover closures
To allow demolition work of Gateshead Flyover, Park Lane Roundabout will be closed from 08:00pm on Saturday 25 July 2026 until the early hours of Friday 21 August 2026.
There will therefore be disruption to Go North East services 53, 54, 93 and 94 as access to Gateshead Quays is restricted due to traffic congestion. The bus stops on Hillgate, Baltic Square, Hawks Road-Norfolk Road and Saltmeadows Road-Deptford Road will not be served.
