Go North East State Of The Fleet - BusSpotter - 22 Apr 2024

Not sure where to put this, but when does the Toon Tour commence again? Eager to see LIG9116 in service.

 May I believe.

There is a private tour operating in Newcastle on Monday next week.

5384 on the peak angel to Brandon. Driver to his credit loads as many as possible.

It then blows its coolant all over Gateshead interchange. The following angel is full whilst an Angel streetdeck carries fresh air passing on the 93

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - PH - BQA - 26 Apr 2024

Some actual wing mirror issues on 3964 on the 21 this afternoon. The driver took about 5 minutes trying to get it to his liking prior to leaving Eldon Square, and continued to fiddle with it at Gateshead. From tracking he looks to have given up there as it's been replaced by 6954.

They let a 21 branded decker on to the X10 today

The last couple of times I've been on it, it has been a Tyne Valley Ten branded vehicle. The driver looked perplexed when I stated 'Bute Arms' as my destination.

If I was in that situation, I'd have said
'well thank you. I've stepped up the lifting recently' and then admire them. Maybe even rolling my sleeve up to look at them from a different angle.

5441 looking forlorn on the back of a breaker earlier.
It's wingmirrors looked intact.

Has 6352 had cream vinyl applied to the front panel to cover over the old style GNE logo or has the panel been replaced?

Sad thats another Omnidekka in flames. Also sad it is very likely to not be saved

Gone with her sister 6145

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - Ambassador - 29 Apr 2024

Flammable wing mirrors

I can't be entirely sad about an Omnidekka going - it's just depressing it'll be replaced by more London that that can't get above 15mph on the climb to Gateshead Interchange

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - itsadam - 29 Apr 2024

There was an angel streetdeck going past the University Hospital of Durham and I drove past and it was particularly smokey at the back

6223 has been tracking incorrectly as 6233 for the past few days.

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - Ambassador - 29 Apr 2024

I see whoever wrote the awful comms during the strike has kept their job with this corker 'serious thermal incident'

Go North East business director, Ben Maxfield said: "We are aware of a serious thermal incident involving one of our vehicles today. No injuries occurred as a result of the incident, and we can confirm that the driver and all passengers were safely evacuated. We are now initiating a comprehensive investigation to determine the underlying cause of the incident.'

It always makes me laugh when they bring out terms like this. You've had a fire lads, everyone can see it.

Can guarantee the driver didn't ring for the Serious Thermal Incident brigade.

Even the fire brigade spokesperson confirmed it had been a fire they put out and not a thermal!

The driver and passengers had already been evacuated from the bus before the crews attended the incident, and firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reels to extinguish the fire safely. Our crews left the incident location at 11.19 am.”

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - Rapidsnap - 29 Apr 2024

So 6146 burned up on re-entry from Orbit.

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - BusLoverMum - 30 Apr 2024

Groan.

And, let me guess. The bus was on its way up that bank. The bus is old. The bus is probably not as well maintained as it could be. That bit might be glossed over.

If there's clearly issues at Riverside, GNE need a single uniformed fleet for the X10 & X21 with more muscle than a StreetDeck and with enough rotation so that 6352-55 aren't getting a daily hammering on the X10!

I've said something similar previously.

The X1 (now X12) and the X10 did just that.
Hard slog up and down the A19, followed by recovery on the slower and easier X1.

Presumably, operators don't believe in interworking like they did previously.
However, they do seem to prefer slogging a vehicle to death rather than making the interworking a feasible alternative.

It's ironic that the operators laziness, sees them kill their vehicles. Whereas the exact opposite, would surely prolong the reliability of them.

Having a uniformed fleet doesn't fix reliability though.

Getting that feeling having 6359 on X21 today, struggled to break around 35mph on the A1(M) this morning due to being uphill Newcastle bound and now got it again back to Durham still absolutely basting hot air from the back downstairs and is 15 minutes late (tight timetabling being another hindrance to service reliability they seem to like doing) with an also late Durham bound 21 just behind us.

Good job Arriva upped the 7 to half hourly on Sundays, means I only have to stand around Durham like a fanny for 25 mins and not 55 mins now, thanks to missed connections.

I'll take the car/train next time, thanks GNE.

Just been looking at bustimes and it has barely had a chance to get a top up of diesel, never mind a clean or any mechanical attention.

In your example, is it that the “slower and easier X1” aided recovery after a hard slog on the A19, or is it that heavier weight buses were used back then which were better suited (and modern stock just isn’t cut out for the work that operators use them on, but there is no alternative)?

Vr's and Metrobuses weren't that heavy were they?
Probably a lot more underpowered and definitely more thirsty than their modern counterparts too.

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - Rapidsnap - 05 May 2024

More electronics on vehicles causing them to go into limp mode.
