I Wonder if part of it is that some people at least don't know that it runs? I know it does say it is on when stagecoach publish their bank holiday arrangements, but some might just assume it is Sunday service so won't be operating. It is quite unusual for a service to run on a bank holiday but not a Sunday

Quite surprised they are operating the Saturday if im honest, id expect to see some single decker loans to the Newcastle depots to allow the deckers to operate the Metro replacement.

Neither Go North East nor Arriva had the resource to be able to fulfil the contract on Saturday.
Believe it's quite likely to have other operators sub-contracted in, and think Metro have permitted the use of single-decks on Saturday (unusual for a planned replacement!) Go North East potentially in line to do some standby Metro Replacements like the weekend before last.
