(08 Nov 2023, 10:53 am)F114TML wrote Yes, I love it when people specify "£4.50 dayrider" or "£5.50 dayrider", particularly on the Economics and X24s. I once had someone get on an X24 asked for a "one week", after trying to charge her £2 (thinking she said "one way"), I then charged her for a £12.50 megarider (more muscle memory than anything), it was only after I'd done all that and she'd paid that she specified she wanted the £19 one to go to Newcastle!

And while we're here, if you're getting a single please specify your destination, rather than just saying "2 quid please", it'll clear up a lot of confusion particularly if the service is cut short, or if you are gonna just ask for a £2 single and not say where to, please read the destination board.

It would also be handy if drivers would bother finding the destination I specify rather than scrolling to find the first place with a £2 fare and putting that on the ticket

A few times now I've got on the X21 and asked for Newcastle and been given a ticket with Spennymoor on it. I know the fare is the same, but if I can guarantee if I got some arsey inspector on they'd pick up on it straight away!

It's so nice having Tap on Tap off on Arriva, no more faffing about talking to drivers, and with the new Durham day ticket it should (in theory) cap it at £2. It's a shame GNE haven't rolled it out considering they were the first in the region to trial it!

(07 Nov 2023, 11:27 pm)mb134 wrote I've bought the T&W one twice since Sunday and on both occasions the driver has had no issue. The first one confirmed it was the £6 one I wanted, but the second one put it through straight away.

I haven't on this launch, but generally if there's a ticket that is new or that I don't buy often I'll also specify the price just so the driver knows what I'm talking about. Given the amount of tickets they have to sell, and that everyone seems to call them slightly different things, I think stating the price eliminates any potential confusion.

I ended up getting the £6.80 one yesterday, as I had a couple hours in Newcastle. Ended up purchasing on the GNE app, as I was having some difficulties with the Arriva one.

I found the experience a bit 50/50. First Arriva bus I boarded; no issue, as the QR code scanned. Second and third Arriva bus, the QR scan detected a bad barcode and neither driver knew what the ticket was, but both waved me on when I said it's 'the new Transport North East ticket'. Metro I had no issues with, nor did I on Stagecoach in the City Centre. It's a shame the QR can't be scanned on Metro or Stagecoach, as if the ETM accepts that, it takes away any question over the ticket being valid or not.

It's rare I use the £2 fare anywhere and end up with a correctly issued ticket. I wonder what would happen if a revenue inspector got on to check tickets, as technically it's invalid if issued short?

I'm surprised the operators aren't more concerned about this, as their passenger data must be awful as a result!

I've had the Nexus person twice on the 515 asking what ticket, how much, another mode of publis trasport?  I hadn't been asked that for yeats and ive only been using the bus for 8 weeks once a day!

It would help if drivers cooperated with this. Last time I took the bus from Durham to Newcastle and back, a couple of weeks ago, I asked for Eldon Square on my Newcastle bound X21 and my ticket said The Cannon. I caught the X12 home, asking for my part of Durham and my ticket was to somewhere in Birtley.

Some Stagecoach companies down south have fitted separate barcode readers on their buses - but it doesn’t seem to be happening up here.

Wouldn't worry about an arsey inspector as there is not one employed by GNE.......

Noticed when I bought the T&W Day Rover and they have simply called it

Tyne & Wear Day Rover and its not the stupid 1D AD T&W Day Rover (I believe this was what Arriva said)

Personally don't see anything wrong with Arriva's there. It clearly stands for 1 Day Adult Tyne and Wear Day Rover.

Yea but trying to show that to a GNE driver was an absolute pain. I showed one of them once and the driver responded saying what does 1D AD mean

RE: T&A Day Rover & Explorer. Go North East & Arriva - Rob44 - 08 Nov 2023

Just seen an add on Facebook and the way I read it was that for 6 quid unlifyed bus travel in tyne and wear but the 680 one is unlimited travel on bus metro and shields ferry in Northumberland tyne and wear and Durham??? Maybe that's why it's only the 680 available on metro????

RE: T&A Day Rover & Explorer. Go North East & Arriva - PH - BQA - 08 Nov 2023

The £6 one absolutely allows T&W Metro travel, it is printed on the Arriva tickets and I used the Metro on Sunday with mine (and had to pass through barriers in Newcastle).

The GNE driver should/will be scanning the QR code on the ticket to validate it, making the written content irrelevant.

Correct. £6 ticket is valid on bus and Metro within T&W.

The £6.80 ticket is also valid on bus and Metro, but only needed by passengers who intend to travel outside of T&W also.

RE: T&A Day Rover & Explorer. Go North East & Arriva - Rob44 - 09 Nov 2023

So can anyone hazard a guess why the 600 quid ticket is not available on the metro machines but the 680 is?

RE: T&A Day Rover & Explorer. Go North East & Arriva - Aaron21 - 09 Nov 2023

I've noticed nexus have now put out the Rover & new £6.80 are now valid on Northern. This just isn't mentioned anywhere else. Like the website for the tickets doesn't mention it or even state u can use them on Northern between Blaydon & Sunderland

You tried looking for a Network One -> Day Rover. Have a feeling it might under that instead.

This.

It's basically the Day Rover that did exist, rebranded.

I think i pressed a+b - adult and day ticket and it came up 6.80.  So i just bought a metro day ticket and it came up as 520 so just used that

RE: T&A Day Rover & Explorer. Go North East & Arriva - Aaron21 - 30 Nov 2023

I genuinely genuinely give up trying with this new ticket. Hell it be a lot easier if they just kept the £9.10 ticket seems to be less confusing. Here's how it's went this morning

Me "can I have the T&W Day Rover the £6 one

Driver "what's that I've not heard of this"

Me "it's the T&W Day Rover its the new £6 one"

Driver "9.10 that's the only one I can find (spends 5 minutes looking for a ticket)

Me "just give me a single to Whitley Bay"

Like this ticket has been around a month and apparently the £9.10 is still on the ticket machines. I genuinely give up at this point trying. The amount of times I've asked for the ticket and drivers somehow struggled to find it annoys me. They can find the £9 10 one but not thr £6 one. I'm not even gonna try buying the £6.80 as that isn't even marked as being an explorer ticket

RE: T&A Day Rover & Explorer. Go North East & Arriva - Storx - 30 Nov 2023

They're not Explorer / Day Rover tickets. They're Transport North East tickets. They'll not be finding them as they'll be looking under the Network One menu which has about 50 tickets in it. I haven't asked for them but the ticket types are:

Transport North East All Zones (£6.80)
Transport North East T&W (£6.00)
Transport North East Northumberland (£5.00)
Transport North East Durham County (£4.00)

I don't think it's helped having two products (at least known) with the same name, but nor do I understand why they'd still have the Network One Day Rover on the ticket machine? It doesn't offer anything additional nor serve a different area to the TNE T&W Day Rover. It'd stop customers being overcharged, if nothing else.

You may find it offers more clarity if you mention 'Transport North East', but I find it easier to buy tickets on the GNE app to be honest. At least you're in control of finding and buying the ticket, and the QR scans work on Arriva buses too. Although I found that a bit hit and miss in the first week.

Aye, I think it's the rover part that will be confusing them as that's always been a Network One ticket. Assuming this is Arriva, you have to remember most these drivers are Northumberland based so people buying Tyne and Wear only tickets will be quite rare.

I'm assumed they're clued up with the All Zone ticket though as it replaced all the local zones up here, so if you mention the TNE (without rover) then they'd know where it is.

I used to have similar problems trying to get the old triple zone tickets on the X12 from Birtley, used to just resort to showing them how to do them instead. It didn't help that it was named 1D AD T&W + BH TZ or some absolute nonsense like that either mind.

I'm shocked then that the £9.10 ticket and others at the old prices have not been withdrawn from the range on the ticket machines.

We can always print or show them the webpage with the Transport North East prices.

Which one is 9.10p? I though you were on about an explorer but that's 12 quid and obviously covers more area than the 6.80 ticket.

On a aide note i bout the T&W one on the 52 yesterday without a problem and it actually scanned on the arriva 45 service too!.  Shame i had to wait ages for Metro barrier people to stop talking about Christmas to let me through the gates at gateshead!!
