Commentator said 'Boro XI weren't good and to a man the Norwich XI were really good' Big Grin

I am pleased...I like Norwich, remember going to see Sunderland play Norwich years ago at Roker Park and being friendly with a few Norwich fans...

My old man also liked Norwich, he went to the Milk Cup Final in 1985 and said the atmosphere was friendly Big Grin

The old name for the League Cup (or whatever sponsor they have now, sort of lost track).

The annual tournament in Northern Ireland, is still known as the 'Milk' (Dairy Council were main sponsor)

It has been

Milk Cup
Rumbelows Cup
Littlewoods Cup
Coca-Cola Cup
Worthington Cup
Carling Cup
Capital One Cup

The present Milk Cup in N.Ireland is a Youth Tournament for U19, U16, U14, U19 is a National Team Comp and the U16 and U14 seems to be a mix of National Team and Club Teams, Newcastle have won it a few times

The Milk cup must have been a few years ago... Newcastle win a trophy, you've got more chance of seeing pigs fly  Tongue

Early - mid 80's if I remember right for the English Milk Cup.
Didn't have a sponsor prior to that.

Newcastle had cracking youth teams in the 80's and 90's.
They won the FA Youth Cup and NI Youth Cup a few times over that period.

I thought so - Newcastle can barely win a football match never mind a trophy!

RE: Football Results - MrFozz - 30 May 2015

Arsenal 2-0 up...Sanchez just scored quite possibly one of the best goals I have ever seen in a Cup Final

Now 3-0. Villa have some serious work to do but i doubt they will be able to come back.

Arsenal will be the first team to win back to back cups since Chelsea in 2009 and 2010

Arsenal 4-0 now...

Deep into injury time

RE: Football Results - MurdnunoC - 31 May 2015

On the subject of the 'Milk Cup' there was also the 'Milk Race' which was essentially a Tour of Britain cycle race. I also had the computer game for my Spectrum +3 which involved a lot of key-bashing as far as remember, I'm not sure if the race still takes place now, but the MMB (Milk Marketing Board) loved their sports sponsorship deals.

Anyway, I digress...

Some members of those Newcastle teams made it to a higher level.
Gazza, Ian Bogie and Neil McDonald (who was the first West Ham representative to congratulate John Carver last weekend). John Carver had also played at that level before injury.
Later on, Lee Clark, Steve Watson, Steve Howey etc appeared.

And brought Accrington Stanley into our living rooms too!
