Yeah it'll be for a while yet I think, saw the photos of it in Eldon Square where the new dining quarter will be.

The husband got his free shake voucher for his birthday, today (it's the one that's the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything). Said he'll have to make a special trip to use that and his £5 IKEA voucher, which he also received for his birthday!

I am usually a fan of Eds Diner and find the food quite nice but when I walking past on Friday there was a horrible oily smell that absolutely stank and made me feel sick; won't be back there for a while...

There are a lot of better places than there in the Metrocentre to be fair, Handmade Burger Co. is my favourite, and Nandos is great.

Meanwhile when I go shopping at the Metrocentre tomorrow I'll be getting myself a Greggs Pasty although I'll be having chippy for tea.

Nandos is just fab but I've heard that people say that the Handmade Burger Co. is overpriced.

I usually just have one day per week where I spend so much money on junk - usually Saturday.

It is expensive but well worth it. To be fair you could say Nandos was overpriced as well, as it's pretty expensive.
Frankie and Bennys is the most expensive one.

F&B is better value if you go for the lunch menu. I can't say I'm overly keen on the food. I end up having fries because the salad is awful and then I feel pretty bloated. It's one of the few places where both boys can find something to eat, though.
Though I'll happily wolf down a burger and fries at the Northside Diner on the top floor of Fenwick!

It's definitely worth trying out. The service is excellent, too - puts the hour that F&B can sometimes take to bring your food to shame. For less burgery stuff, Cafe 21 is really good - I had a delicious minute steak in there, back in the summer. It's non fussy food like steak, home made fish fiingers, omelette, prawn cocktail, bacon sarnies etc but really good quality.

A new diner type place has opened in Seaham, down on the dock/marina.
I think it is the last unit to have been taken and is called 'Bulan' (something like that) and is ran by a local couple, who seem genuinely keen/interested in their customers.
The food is cooked fresh and is really nice. Reasonably priced too.
I was there fairly recently and would recommend it over any of the chain places, mentioned above.

The Barnes in Sunderland do a beautiful Carvery and a lovely eat all you want breakfast, The Oak Tree Farm at Doxford Park is lovely as well
Murton will be decent in time, we have Dalton Park Phase II well under way, we will have a new pub which I believe will do meals with Frankie and Bennys(supposedly) and KFC being added as well...The Dalton Park Park do meals, and if you like a Pork/Beef Dip, then Phillip Youngs Butchers are lovely

Not really a chain pub/restaurant fan, but the Toby's are canny for what you pay.
I was in one in York once, and saw the male half of a young couple have nowt but a plate full of Yorkshire Puddings. Obviously one of those 'fussy eaters'.
Haven't been to that butchers in Murton for years. Keep meaning to call in whenever I pass. Never have done unfortunately.

Greggs is overpriced slop. The bacon and cheese wraps were nice, but they must have changed the recipe. And the rocky roads that came straight from behind the glass were replaced with horrible packaged rubbish.
Two bakeries merged in Ashington the other month, Bakers Pantry, one on the main street, on at Poundstrechers at the bus station and one on Milburn Road. Really nice sausage rolls, ham buns, 99p hot drinks etc.

And the rocky roads that came straight from behind the glass were replaced with horrible packaged rubbish.My favourite bakers is Taylor's but annoyingly they only have shops at Darlington, Ferryhill, Framwellgate Moor and Richmond so since I finished college last year I don't get to go there very often these days, although it was the place of choice when I was at college and I would often get a corned beef pasty which as well as being thicker as Greggs' it is also only 78p instead of £1.10 and my other usual was a hot dog.

Theres 2 butchers in Murton, Dave Pounders next to the Colliery Inn(now The Great Wall Chinese), his dips are manky these days, but Phil Young does the best Dips, he is next door to the Bookies on The Terrace opposite the Co-Op

We don't even have a baker's any more. If you're talking about the same Taylor's that has a factory in Shotton, they sell stuff through our local shops, though. Don't rate the pastry products at all (tried a piece of quiche and it was bogging) but their bread rolls are lovely.

It is on the left hand side, as you head towards Dalton Park from Hetton.

I have been to two of the pubs (years ago) and there are two on the list that I wanted to go to (White Lead at Hebburn and The Ship on Stepney Bank) - but will avoid like the plague!

I used to go for a pint or 3 in the Ship Inn, most Fridays, after work. Great spit and sawdust pub, but didn't serve food back then, so never ate more than a packet or 3 of Kettlechips. Was just before the Cluny opened, when I last went.
