RE: Anything and Everything - Adrian - 23 Nov 2014 (22 Nov 2014, 11:55 pm)NEBCD Malarkey wrote I seen him at the Bus Stop on Athenaeum St in Sunderland on Tuesday, he had me in kinks as I walked passed him to go into Ingeus. I used to see him quite often, when I used to go clubbing and such every week. I remember going to the Palace nightclub in Sunderland once when it was still open, and he was stood in one of those dancer podiums haha. Bad pic, and from a 28 days later report, but the structure with the chained rings around it towards the left, was the DJ box. It had dancer podiums either side of it, and the records used to pretty much jump all over because of it! RE: Anything and Everything - Dan - 23 Nov 2014 Haven't seen him or the Bag Man in ages. Does the owld gadgie who wears a proper suit and top hat and everything still kick about the clubs in Sunderland - hitting on the 18 year old lasses? RE: Anything and Everything - Adrian - 23 Nov 2014 (23 Nov 2014, 12:06 am)Dan wrote Haven't seen him or the Bag Man in ages. Don't think I've heard of him! I have heard of bag man like, as my mates used to always offer to carry them for him, and he'd go wild about it haha. There was Jimmy Jesus too, but I think he's dead. Funniest for me has to be a guy who was known as 'old man seagull'. Was about 60-70 and used to do this mad feet stamping dance, with his top round his waist, and dripping in sweat! Pleasant.... Used to him all over the Town with his headphones on raving away...is he still around or still alive??? RE: Anything and Everything - Jimmi - 23 Nov 2014 Used to him all over the Town with his headphones on raving away...is he still around or still alive???Saw him in Sunderland the other week. It's hard to believe what you're watching... Fucking love Dave the Rave, everytime i go to the town i look for him... i also look out for bag man! Seen bag man the other day, he looks really well Ye, the dude with the top hat is still out and about, seen him in TTonic the other night, hitting on the lasses! Poor Jimmy Jesus =(, he died a few years ago, i remember seen him walking down Roker... he stunk that bad, i had the smell in my nose for ages Re: RE: Anything and Everything - MrFozz - 23 Nov 2014 (23 Nov 2014, 3:53 pm)Michael wrote Fucking love Dave the Rave, everytime i go to the town i look for him... i also look out for bag man!He is a canny fella, spoke to him once or twice when I turned out.. Every Town has it's unusual characters, Dave the Rave is one of Sunderlands... As for other people who were characters was Super Mario and John Newman in Durham, Murton had Crankie Hall, who lived in poverty despite being close to a Millionaire and Blind Jason in Peterlee... The best was Lawrence in Hartlepool, an avid Hartlepool fan, I called him Norman Bates as he was known wear women's clothes, probably his mothers Despite being a massive Pools fan, he was not allowed to go to away games by his mother and also years ago when Hartlepool won promotion and he had a heart attack RE: Anything and Everything - MrFozz - 23 Nov 2014 Another Murton character is Tot Headley, went on a coach holiday to Germany, got lost somewhere after missing his coach somehow and ended up being picked up by the Polizei somewhere around the Polish Border RE: Anything and Everything - Adam - 26 Nov 2014 Been invited to my American friends' Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. What the bloody hell do I wear for it?! Never been to one before haha RE: Anything and Everything - MurdnunoC - 26 Nov 2014 (26 Nov 2014, 12:11 am)Adam wrote Been invited to my American friends' Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. RE: Anything and Everything - Adam - 26 Nov 2014 (26 Nov 2014, 12:21 am)AdamY wrote hahaha may well do... On a more serious note though, is a shumper (basically with a jumper with the collar of a shirt sown onto it), jeans and blaxk shoes alright for it? RE: Anything and Everything - MurdnunoC - 26 Nov 2014 (26 Nov 2014, 12:26 am)Adam wrote hahaha may well do... I don't think there's any particular dress code that I've noticed when watching people celebrate thanksgiving on television. Dress smart/casual. Wear whatever you wear when going out to a restaurant or something. Shumper it is then. Got 5 to choose from RE: Anything and Everything - Andreos1 - 26 Nov 2014 An interesting read on 1938 Tyneside http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-30152684 Re: RE: Anything and Everything - MrFozz - 26 Nov 2014 (26 Nov 2014, 7:47 am)Andreos1 wrote An interesting read on 1938 TynesideJust to pick a few things from that On the accent "most barbarous, monotonous and irritating twang". On Newcastle/Gateshead While Newcastle had a "sombre dignity" and "more impressive buildings than one would expect", Gateshead was a town "carefully planned by an enemy of the human race". On Geordies in general The "slatternly" women he saw were "standing at the doors of wretched little houses gossiping with other slatterns or screeching for their small children playing among the filth". The Geordies were "stocky toothless fellows cursing in their uncouth accent" but would do a "grand job of work" if given the chance. On Jarrow Jarrow suffered from a "thick air heavy with enforced idleness, poverty and misery" and seemed as if it had "deeply offended some celestial emperor and was now being punished". Hebburn Hebburn was running numerous education courses to enrich the lives of its residents, Priestley notes, but he still sums it up by saying: "You felt there was nothing in the place worth a five pound note" Shotton Priestley's fury at the way the region was left to suffer by the loss of industry deepened as he travelled south into County Durham, the pit village of Shotton sparking disgusted disbelief. "Imagine a village consisting of a few shops, a public house, clutter of dirty little houses all at the base of what looked like an active volcano, the notorious Shotton tip, a man-made smoking hill," he wrote. "The atmosphere was thickened with ashes and sulphuric fumes like that of Pompeii, the whole village and everybody in it was buried in this thick reek." Middlesbrough Middlesbrough, which Priestley described as a "dismal town even with the beer and football", was fuming, the mayor and local paper calling the work "the height of impudence". Northern Echo readers labelled him the prophet of evil... He is nearly spot on with Jarrow, Hebburn, Shotton and Middlesbrough Re: Anything and Everything - MrFozz - 27 Nov 2014 Phillip Hughes: Australian batsman dies, aged 25 Damn...Taken too soon at 25, not a big cricket fan myself, but devastating to hear this...God only knows what the lad who bowled the ball is going through...Absolute freak accident, there are only about 100 cases in history of what killed Phil Hughes and 1 other case in Cricket...Very sad day for sport and cricket RE: Anything and Everything - Michael - 27 Nov 2014 (27 Nov 2014, 10:11 am)marxistafozzski wrote Phillip Hughes: Australian batsman dies, aged 25 R.I.P Way to young. Decided to go with a few offers I saw in the latest edition of Hornby, and so I've got subscriptions to Railways Illustrated and Modern Railways on the way! RE: Anything and Everything - Michael - 29 Nov 2014 Wasn't sure where to put this but: A six-mile stretch of the A1 is closed today after reports of an explosion near an Army barracks http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/local/all-news/a1-closed-after-reports-of-explosion-near-army-barracks-town-1-6979615 Re: RE: Anything and Everything - MrFozz - 29 Nov 2014 (29 Nov 2014, 11:21 am)Michael wrote Wasn't sure where to put this but:Bloody Hell, I hope it is nothing sinister... I can remember being stuck on the Western Bypass years ago because of a bomb threat at The Metro Centre and loads of bomb threats in Durham at one time RE: Anything and Everything - Malarkey - 29 Nov 2014 Has anyone read or watched the News today about the Explosion at Catterick, I am quite amazed that this Explosion was heard at 3am and the Police still havent found anything, and they closed the A1 as a Result for Hours on end, Have they not thought of a Plane breaking the speed of sound during the Night, rather than something suspicious occurring on the Ground. Good point but is there not rules in place to stop any kind of plane from breaking the sound barrier, and what could do that, military jets surely dont exercise much at 3am...It was said earlier police found old detonators RE: Anything and Everything - tyresmoke - 29 Nov 2014 (29 Nov 2014, 9:51 pm)NEBCD Malarkey wrote Has anyone read or watched the News today about the Explosion at Catterick, I am quite amazed that this Explosion was heard at 3am and the Police still havent found anything, and they closed the A1 as a Result for Hours on end, Have they not thought of a Plane breaking the speed of sound during the Night, rather than something suspicious occurring on the Ground.
