Upgrade X6/62 to versa's

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - ASX_Terranova - 11 Oct 2021

You could remove the 37 (Nexus) entirely by extending the 82 to Concord, 82, 84 or 85 to Coach Road & 33 to Washington Galleries.

Isn’t the 37 a secured service?, there’s nothing much you can do with a secured service ran by the local authority, as there’s a reason why the service runs as is, it doesn’t run to profit to line the pockets of bus companies , there run the service as it’s needed in the community

The 37 came about after GNE decided to do away with their commercial offerings. It left a few areas without a service and Nexus had to step up and fill the gap.

Am i right i thinking that even back in the 169 days it was a secured service.

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - User2613 - 12 Oct 2021

Could a 4a type route work? I was thinking normal route heworth to the galleries then out of Washington running via lambton, harraton (sycamore avenue) and rickelton to Chester then the 71 route to Houghton. Journey time would be 70 minutes each way so a PVR of 5 with a 30 minute frequency.

The 8 could then be rerouted to be sped up between the galleries and Chester and potentially mean the timing of the 78 and 8 could be made more even rather than running from common areas a few minutes apart like now.

The 71 could also be withdrawn.

Nah can't withdraw the 71. September service changes already proved that

That's because of the Chester to Houghton section. Which this would replace. Past versions of the 71 and 36 when that existed all had the Chester to Houghton section as that's the section which is subsidised.

The 169 wasn't the same as the 37 though. Two totally different routes.

The 37 came about after GNE removed the service to Biddick Woods and axed one variation of a Newcastle express, which extended to Seaham.
They did send the X1 (would have been the X5 at the time) in to Biddick Woods at one point. I say they sent it in - it was meant to serve Biddick Woods, but more often than not, they didn't bother.

That was because the main part of the service is subsidised so if they did replace that section they could withdraw that route.

I don't know the history of Houghton to Seaham but I'd be surprised if that bit nowadays at least isn't important if not more so that the Chester to Houghton end which is mostly Nexus territory. It's the only bus in Dene Estate and Seaton and would leave communities without a bus service at all, the other end is all served by buses even known it means changing buses.

I think it was a variation of the 179, but pretty sure the Washington - Houghton via Chester has been tried already. At least 2 or 3 times.
Chester - Seaham was the 735 donkeys years ago and that didn't last, even when the pits were open.

Thats not to say it can't/won't work nowadays.

My own thoughts revolve about the need to improve the headway on the Washington - Chester and Chester - Woodstone Village services before tinkering with any routes. That should be the priority imo.

You could do like a 60A, which would be seperate to the current Version - Parkside, Princess Road, Seaham, Seaton - Houghton - Sunderland College - Sunderland.

8/78 should be kept 15 mins apart from each other most time, not as bad timing as X6/62.

Tbh ive thought this for a while, but i think what helps a service to grow,is frequency, and the attractiveness of vehicles that service uses,if neither appeal, then that said service's days are numbered from day 1

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - ASX_Terranova - 13 Oct 2021

Increase 8 to Every 20 Mins,  With 2 8's and an 8A

8 Route to remain the same except for serving Enterprise Park Western End.
8A Re-route: Park Lane, Royal Hospital, Pallion, Spire Bridge, Casteltown, Teal Farm, Waterview Park, Barmston Slip-Road, Washington Galleries, Biddick, Harraton, Rickleton, Picktree, Chester-Le-Street, Pelton, Newfield, Grange Villa, Craghead, South Moor, Stanley.

Departs Stanley: 19 (8), 39, (8A), 59 (8)
Departs Sunderland: 52 (8), 12 (8A), 32(8)

Would provide additonal buses between CLS, Pelton, Newfield, Grange Villa & Stanley.
Would give GNE Links between Park Lane, Royal Hospital, St Lukes Cross, Pallion & Castletown.

If still not enough, make the 78 every 20 Mins and add a 78A as well.

Personally on the Western side if you wanted to increase buses to Stanley I'd change the 28/28A/28B all running through to this route - https://www.google.com/maps/dir/54.868208,-1.6989631/Ouston/@54.8681785,-1.702673,14z/data=!4m54!4m53!1m45!3m4!1m2!1d-1.6841682!2d54.8687004!3s0x487e78ce5d2134bf:0xa7e5f9a9b3b401e6!3m4!1m2!1d-1.681579!2d54.8692628!3s0x487e78d1d6d8f2bf:0x777257e07cb84497!3m4!1m2!1d-1.6784818!2d54.8697822!3s0x487e78d101e11079:0x18c31efe295cf871!3m4!1m2!1d-1.6753774!2d54.8729229!3s0x487e78d9ff38061f:0x18d95b294a13df41!3m4!1m2!1d-1.6623113!2d54.8736791!3s0x487e792609f7b0c5:0x5756dacd9110dcb5!3m4!1m2!1d-1.6545401!2d54.8771002!3s0x487e793b4cc29e45:0x511dde5079b6fc27!3m4!1m2!1d-1.640346!2d54.8710492!3s0x487e79483a856ff1:0x2f3f5258f4ceba5c!3m4!1m2!1d-1.6353561!2d54.8726823!3s0x487e7948a3c64345:0x4cfa21f66b7a1b87!3m4!1m2!1d-1.6245162!2d54.8705222!3s0x487e7950549b6ea5:0xea82d5394aa0168b!1m5!1m1!1s0x487e7bdd1a08158f:0xa34de1daebc7bd17!2m2!1d-1.5977091!2d54.883391!3e0

It gives a few new links such as Birtley / Ouston to Stanley, evening East Stanley to Newcastle, Stanley to Gateshead (even known slow), No Place to Newcastle, QE to Stanley. It also partially replaces the 31 and gives new links to places where people actually want to be as long as you can work with DCC and get stops on Humber Hill or do Hail and Ride.

Not sure what demand there would be but it seems more logical than it's Perkinsville ending and Pelton Fell has the 78/78A so the horseshoe route doesn't make much sense nowadays since everywhere else has the 8 to CLS which is quicker.

See i like this suggestion based on your numbering, because South Tyneside used to be 5**, you could also re-number the 26/27 to 526/527,the 9 to 559
North Tyneside could do this
Q3-300
1-301
11-312
19-313
41/41A-314/315
42/42A-316/317

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - peter - 20 Oct 2021

I know it's very fresh but I reckon there would be some benefit to combining new service 42 with the 204/204A. The previous Scarlet Band S1 service offered a direct connection from Mount Oswald to Dragonville Tesco. As the new student accommodation is self-catered, I imagine there would still be a student demand for that link and for residents of the housing estate tbh. In addition lots of students live in Gilesgate and previously used the S1 to commute to Uni. Have one bus on the new 42 continue to the rail station and the other would continue through to Gilesgate and beyond. I know the 42 is DCC supported but I can't see why they would appose to this if the 42 service was still maintained apart from only one service per hour to the station.

Do you have time table to these new changes?

Could the 21 or 50 be diverted on the old X22 route (i.e. through Newton Hall & Carr House Drive), would the demand be there.

Not enough time currently to divert the 21/50 (or X20) via these areas, could maybe send the current X22 via there though as it currently has around 20 mins layover at the Metrocentre. No idea if demand would be there or not mind

tbh I have been on the X22, and that 20 min layover is for delays on the A1. I think, or the X22 would be ridiculous late all the time.

I've wondered if there's a deliberate operational decision to slow down the 21 between certain points (say Durham - Chester) , spreading the load and encouraging people to use the X21 between the same points.

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - V514DFT - 21 Oct 2021

I know Newcastle has more than enough services to/from Gateshead, but always thought they were missing a trick with the 93/94,i know back in the days of the 13/14 it used to go into Newcastle, dunno who ran it though

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - Wybus - 21 Oct 2021

The majority of the route has Newcastle services near by, Heworth side there is the 27, in the middle the 56, 57, 58, 21 etc, Team Valley South End there is the 28 and then Lobley Hill side the X70-X72 & 97

(21 Oct 2021, 4:13 pm)Keeiajs wrote tbh I have been on the X22, and that 20 min layover is for delays on the A1. I think, or the X22 would be ridiculous late all the time.
It’s more the fact they can’t really take much layover at the Durham end at the moment without getting in the way, so it’s all taken at the MetroCentre end

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2 - ASX_Terranova - 22 Oct 2021

New Service 22: Newcastle, Bensham, Saltwell Park, Low Fell, Harlow Green, Washington Galleries, Lambton, Ayton, Chester-Le-Street, Plawsworth, Arnison Centre, Newton Hall, Carr House Drive, Framwellgate Moor, Durham, Shincliffe, Bowburn, Metal Bridge, Ferryhill.
Every 15 Mins (Newcastle to Durham)
Every 30 Mins (Newcastle to Ferryhill)

Reasonings

  • Would Connect Arnison Centre & University Hospital to Shincliffe, Bowburn, Metal Bridge & Ferryhill
  • Would Provide a Faster Service Between Durham & Ferryhill than ANE 56 (35  Mins on 22, 49  MIns on 56)
  • Would Provide Buses for Amazon at Bowburn.
  • Would Provide Extra Buses Between Washington, Chester-Le-Street & Durham
  • Would Provide Extra Buses Between Washington & Newcastle (Albeit via Different Route)
  • Similar Journey Times to XLines X1 Between Washington & Newcastle (36 Mins)
  • Similar Journey Times to Angel 21 Between Chester-Le-Street & Newcastle (51 Mins)

if GNE wouldn't take this on, I could see someone else doing it instead.
